The bout was predictably unspectacular. There were a lot of entertaining fights this weekend, but those who wish to pile on hate about boxing will cite the Hopkins/Jones rematch as evidence boxing is somehow inferior to MMA while not mentioning the exciting fights.

Boxing and MMA are both good sports and with largely different fanbases.

now it might just be me, but seems boxing's problem, besides a lack of big name fighters and a completely shitty heavyweight division, is the absence of the freebie. anyone with any marketability is swept away to HBO or Showtime and then it is on to PPV. maybe it is just me, but ESPN Tuesday or Friday night fights just doesn't do it. boxing has limited big names and they fight twice a year. myself, i love boxing in the purest form of hit without being hit. however, tyson proved there is huge market that just wants to see the huge KO. after tyson left, there was no more menace, no fighter you knew was going to walk in the ring and try to knock someone's head off. when those people that were only fans because of the big KO find out there is one or two huge KOs every UFC event, it will get even bigger. i wonder how much boxing's fan base has shrunk since 2000.

it does amaze me though that people pay for WWE when they know the outcome is decided beforehand.
