They probably travelled to a state where you can get married at 17. If they get married, then there's not going to be any crime here that anyone prosecutes.

This stuff happens a lot. In my small hometown, my junior high English teacher ended up marrying one of his students. She babysat his 3 kids while she was in high school, and then after she graduated he divorced his wife and married her. Then they had a couple more kids. He was close to 50 and she was 18 when they got married.

In a town near my hometown a band teacher (married with kids in his 30's) was caught by a girl's dad climbing through her bedroom window. She was 15 (legal age for sex was 16) and he got thrown in prison.

After he gets out the girl is then over 18 and they get married and have kids.

If I was making the law, I'd basically say that once you hit 14, you are treated as an adult in all aspects. You can screw whoever you want. And if you commit a violent crime, you're going to be charged as an adult. You want to get married at 14 - go ahead. You want a job at 14? Go ahead. And I'd eliminate any laws that prohibit teacher/student relationships. If they want to consent to dating, then go for it. I'd obviously fire them if a teacher is banging a student, but I wouldn't make it a punishable offense by the law if both are consenting to it. So basically lower consent laws to 14. By the time you are 14, you know what is right and what is wrong. If I see some 14 year old gang members hanging out on the street corner, I'm not looking at those people as "poor little children". I'm looking at them as violent thugs.
