Anyone ever been in a motorcycle accident?
Last summer I got cut off by a woman who then put on the breaks to take a turn. Needless to say I wrecked my bike and broke a few ribs, a helmet and proper gear really is a life saver. The scariest thing was being tossed into the road with cars going by you.....that was sheer terror. Riding bikes, if you've done it, is one of the most fun things you can do with a group of friends.....it's just awesome. The chance of getting killed or hurt must increase 100x every time you climb on a bike though. Adjust odds for rider experience, size of bike.......don't even factor in the car hazard of other drivers. Check out what happened to this poor guy.....

Japanese biker fails to notice missing leg

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- A Japanese biker failed to notice his leg had been severed below the knee when he hit a safety barrier, and rode on for 2 km (1.2 miles), leaving a friend to pick up the missing limb.

The 54-year-old office worker was out on his motorcycle with a group of friends in the city of Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, on Monday, when he was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and bumped into the central barrier, the Mainichi Shimbun said.

He felt excruciating pain, but did not notice that his right leg was missing until he stopped at the next junction, the paper quoted local police as saying.

The man and his leg were taken to hospital, but the limb had been crushed in the collision, the paper said.

    Yuck!

Once a car in front of me threw some kind of debris that hit me square in the knee. It felt like my leg had been severed, but fortunately, it had not!

I rode a bike for two years as my only vehicle in Colorado. Despite the frequent hypothermia, those were great times. I had some close calls, of course, but was lucky enough to never lay my bike down.

I sold my bike about 4 years ago, but I'm sure I'll have another someday soon.

I hit a deer doing 60 mph in Darien GA back in 1980 or 81. Didnt even notice both my thigh bones were broken from them hitting the handlebars. Was standing up trying to lift what was left of the Sportster, was in shock big time, remember no pain till at the hospital.

Wasnt a pretty sight, when the ambulance finally got me to the hospital they thought I was bleeding to death. Besides the fur all stuck to me, I wasnt bleeding at all, it was all deer blood covering me.

Ive been in a few less severe bike wrecks since then, but nothing that compares to hitting that deer. Still ride to this day, its just part of riding, you will go down sooner or later.

As a little boy my mother worked as a nurse in a hospital. She saw first hand what can happen . One day when I was about eight years old, she look at me right between the eyes and said "if I ever see you on a motorcycle I will disown you as my son."
I road once as a teenager in high school, but was so frighten my the experience that I have never riden since.

motorbikes are fun, but they only go up to 40-50 mph. i driven one of those big bikes...changing gear with your foot while pressing on the clutch with your left hand and be aware of your surrounding is pretty challenging when you have crazy drivers in cars who try to cut you off. plus these bikes are HEAVY...if they tip over, there is a good chance that your leg will be broken. i got scared with couple of near accidents...right now i am just sticking with sports cars and little bikes.

what do you guys like better...ninja bikes or harley type of big bikes?

I've been in several motorcycle accidents. Mostly due to being an inexperienced rider. Haven't been on a bike in over 15 years.
