    Blizzard! Check in East Casters
I live on the Connecticut side of the Long Island Sound.
Ground zero for this weather event.
One senior meteorologist just said, "We're set up for a historic storm."
Set up being the operative words, it doesn't mean it will be historic.

    What
Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations between 16 and 24 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
    Where
Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York.
    When
From 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM EST Monday.
    Impacts
Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
    Additional Details
Heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected tonight into Monday.
    Summary
Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions. A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay in your vehicle.

    Issued By
    NWS Upton NY

This is why I love New England.

        Thanks, JP.

I have one foot out the door right now for some backup Purina for Tessie Dog.
I'm hearing from news reports that the vultures already cleaned out most of the grocery shelves for miles.

        Snow's starting to fall already.

You're a better man than me to live in that type of weather. I have come to realize that I'm pretty soft when it comes to cold weather after living most of my life in San Diego. Hawaii is my type of weather year round

Craziest snow-fall I've ever seen came in the UP of Michigan. White-outs are real, sight distance reduces to almost nothing. Take it ez, nash.

Except yesterday. We had some mean thunderstorms move through the islands. Oahu was one great swimming pool! But it also left us with some beautiful waterfalls.

6" of snow down already, another 18" expected.
It's a whiteout now with the wind.

My only fear is that we lose power, which would suck.

I took this from my deck around 9 pm; two more inches have fallen since then.

                          Thanks for that.

Yeah, I took a power nap last night so I can stay awake for this blizzard.
These types of 'bomb cyclone' Nor'Easters come around once a decade. Sure, we get boatloads of snow most winters, but these storms are rare.

You people need to get real. TV whatever, is in the business of sensationalizing. I've been through the blizzard (REAL BLIZZARD) of 68?. They had to bring in the Nat Guard to bail us out. Blizard of 79 (Caused me to move to FLA). Perfect storm 92? I had just moved back from fla (see the movie). Maybe 2015 we got 100" of snow in 3 storms over 3 weeks.

This is like a 1 out of 5 for NE storms. Electricity is the ISSUE!! Right now it's a balmy 70 at my kitchen table.

In 2015, we had three storms in two weeks of 30 ", 30", and 20"+

This was a storm of the decade, 18" of snow, and 50 - 65 MPH. The last time we saw a blizzard like this was in 2015

What do you think, you're the only one.
I lost power for five days survivng Super Storm Sandy.

Can't speak for NY etc but many places circa BOS are condo/rentals on narrow streets. We escaped the brunt, these people will be weeks before they can find a spot and equipment to move all the snow away. I can remember 2015 when they had machines with heaters near the harbor to turn the hauled snow into water and flush it into to ocean. Enter the environmentalist where there are MANY restrictions into doing so.

                                          That old gag.

"That's funny, my wife never complained about 8.5 inches before"

                                          Well played, Ian.

Even with the condo association plowing the property, there was still leftover plowing.
Yeah, man, this was a classic, we checked in with a tad over 20."
Up the coast about 40 miles (What's known as the shoreline), places like Mystic, New London, hamlets near Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun got 30 ",

Stowington was the 'winner', the last tally I heard was Stowington at 38."

There's something about classic 'bomb cyclone', blizzards, and Nor'Easters that reduced grown adults into 12-year-old kids, if just for one night.

I have to get my buddy JP up here so he can experience just one of these.
