Wow, didn't see that one coming. RIP, Ryno.

I spent many summer afternoons watching Ryno play for the Cubs. Harry and Steve on the call.

1984 MVP. Helped bring the Cubs out of the doldrums. Man, he was good.

Gonna give a classic Harry call. Does anyone ELSE remember this one?

I loved Ryno, one of the smoothest I ever saw, Ryno and Lou Whitaker.
He was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago, briefly beat it, but the cancer came back big time.

He was a fighter and gave prostate a good fight before going out; he didn't deserve that.
RIP Ryne, you played the game not only correctly, but at the highest level.

Nashy, see my note above. Remember how the Cubs were viewed as "lovable losers"?

Harry was a great funny-man. They had the WGN contract. But they weren't taken seriously.

They improved by +25 games in 1984. And a lot of that was Ryno. Turned away by the Padres, so no World Series.

Again in 1989. They win the Division. Run into the Giants. Will Clark goes insane. 13/20 (.650) for the Series.

                  Well put, Mr. Obama.

Barack Obama on X: "Hall of Famer and Cubs stalwart Ryne Sandberg wasn’t just a great baseball player – he was a class act who never cheated the game. Everyone in Chicago – including White Sox fans – will miss him deeply." / X
