(NFL) Repeating my stance: I'll never pay Face Value for a ticket (again)
These self-absorbed pricks don't know how good they have it. Last year I noted that CIN/DALL/SanFran were the teams that had holdouts. All three teams under-achieved, b/c they weren't ready for the season.

    1) DALL Def End Parsons wants an extension.
...If I was Jerry Jones, I'd get Parsons and Prescott in a room.
...JERRY: "Parsons, we're running a team here. And we didn't do so well last year. We operate under a salary cap. If you can convince Dak to cut some of his salary, I can give you a boost. If not, gonna have to let you go."

    2) CIN DE Hendrickson threatening to holdout.
...Same thing, GM should get Hendrickson and Burrow in a room.
...GM: "Joe's willing to re-structure his deal. If Joe is willing to take a little less, we can give you a little more."
...Burrow's the only guy in the league who's mentioned taking less money. I'd give a little to Hendrickson. But I wouldn't give any to Chase, b/c I know that he'd just hold out again.

    3) BUF QB Allen gets a new deal. $330Mill (w/ $250M guaranteed)!
...Guy is an excellent player. That said, did anyone get to the end of the season and say "Man, that Allen guy isn't compensated ENOUGH"?
...If Allen was a real team guy, he'd say "As a team, we have yet to reach our goal. I get paid plenty. By not re-upping, the team can build a stronger roster. I hold off for the fans."

Think about all the old-time players who played their balls off to give the current players an opportunity. These guys can play on their own. Nice job pricing out the average-guy fan.

There are certain sporting events/concerts I will pay premium secondary prices for, on those rare occasions that I do it's for an event that is special to me, and that's the only way to get in the door.

In the past decade, I've done that twice.
I paid 400 dollars for a decent seat in the 2015 Royals World Series, and two years ago for the NCAA basketball tournament with UConn.
Two of my all-time favorite teams, and tickets were next to impossible.

But yes, I hear you, with today's tech, you can get a ticket for a Cubs-Mets regular season game for less than 50 percent face value an hour before first pitch online.

Retail is for suckers, especially in this day and age.

Fair retort, nash. I've been to some big-time events, enjoyed those trips.

If someone has the $$, they can pay for what they want. In my mind, no way is the Face Value justified anymore.

And in the case of these big-ticket players, I prefer to boycott them. Instead of funding them.

One more comment on NFL contracts. Niners are the other team that had 2024 holdouts. They had a Super Bowl-caliber roster, but guys held out and got out of shape.

Latest chatter is Brock Purdy getting a new contract. There's a reason he was drafted in the 7th round. He has a pop-gun arm and can't win games on his own.

A lot of guys look good when the roster is perfect. If I was the GM, I'd make the tough decision and let him go. When Purdy signs the new contract, then I'll know that the Niners are cooked.

PS: LB Warner is signing a huge contract. Is that based on their run to the Super Bowl last year?

Over paid players often get soft and just don't put in that extra effort too. Not even 100% the individuals fault. Just a natural reaction I think.

Very true, Opti. Listen to the TOP athletes. It's actually a jedi mind-trick, they convince themselves that they're vulnerable so that they stay motivated.

The only league worth the money is the National Hockey League. It’s an effort game and there’s nowhere to hide on the ice. You have to skate hard every shift and they mostly do. I’ve never left a hockey game and felt cheated by effort or entertainment win/lose. Every other sport- I can’t say the same.

                  Spot on.

I used to go to the Meadowlands before Met Life ponied up all that money for the naming rights of the arena, I used to go to an occasional Devils game; you're just glued to your seat, taking in the nonstop action, a three hour game flies by so fast it seemed like you were in the building for only an hour.
