(MLB) This Devers article summarizes my view on the modern pro athlete
Red Sox owner John Henry flew to Kansas City to have a sit-down with disgruntled star Rafael Devers, who told the team he would not move to first base.

    1) These guys are now in a different economic stratosphere.
    2) They don't know how good they have it. How can someone be so myopic?
    3) You're in the middle of a 10-year, $313 contract. If they ask you to change positions, you say 'Yes.'
    4) If they ask you to sweep the infield before games, you say 'Yes. Anything else I can do?'
    5) John Henry is a billionaire. His job description = Keep the Money Train churning. Henry went out of his way to meet with Devers. You know how childish this makes you (Devers) look?

I've mentioned this before. I now don't feel compelled to pay for sporting tickets. These players need a reality-check.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Every player is their own individual. Probably not the best avenue to think they all think this way Chucky.
I do not know what the percentage is but it can’t be 100%. At least I hope not. I do get your point but there are players that would have a different perspective on this situation in all probability.

I’m with you in that on the surface, it is disgusting. Where is his thought process where maybe not being in the field on defense is attributing to that weak batting average. DH is not for everyone. It’s a mindset as much as it is anything. And team player? Nope.
Someone that he respects, if that exists, needs to have a sit down with him and explain life and his position in it. And where he would be if he wasn’t in baseball. Have to think that his amount of contract will not be enough to cover him for life. While it should, we’ve seen that movie before with other players but who knows for certain. Seems like he is 28 and thinking like a teenager.

Well chuckles they did basically tell him at the beginning of the season to shelf the mit so I guess they are getting what they deserve. But my thoughts on this is if baseball didn't have a DH, which I think is panzy ass and ridiculous to begin with, this wouldn't be a problem. In my eyes if you are in the majors you should be able to field your position and hit, no matter what position you play including pitchers.

You're a cooler mind, str. Maybe it's not every player.

One other thing about the "position" change. DH is not a position, it's a non-position. Team picked up an injury, so it's more than reasonable for them to ask you to change "positions."

Telling a guy to change positions two times in 2 months is a bit much. You have to get yourself up mentally each time. You’re at 3rd base, no go to DH, no play 1st base. Stop playing games with my heart. Some guys can play any position. Some guys are all team first. Do I need to mow the grass types but some can’t handle changes well, especially if they feel there’s a lack of communication.

            This!

I've been watching this story for a while now.
Both sides make valid points, I have no dog in this fight, but something has to give here.

Players calling out management is never a good look.
Management needs to look in the mirror and say "Oh shit, we're the idiots that sent Mookie to LA and proclaimed this guy our "face of the franchise"

Both sides are stuck with each other; that contract is such a farce that no MLB team would go near it, especially with Devers's diva attitude.

Total turnoff!! Most people would clean toilets for 1M a year (6 months) let alone 40M or whatever.

                More drama.

Red Sox star blatantly disobeying instructions from manager Alex Cora, adding to Rafael Devers drama
