Am sick of the U.S and working in front of a computer 10 hours a day. How hard would it be for a 24 year old with a degree to move to Costa Rica and get a good paying job at a sports book? Do guys have anyone I could contact regarding this matter.

#2All my information is second hand, but in general you aren't goint to find much beyond a clerk job (less than minimum wage in the states) unless you have a lot work experience with lines, marketing, sales, or some tech area. Even then you need to have connections to a book that actually views you as having some value. So bottom line is that you are likely better off in the states and just looking for different employment.Comment -

#3sjelveh, you'll propbably make more money staying in the states unless you get a management job in a sportsbook or call center down here. If you'll like to make big bucks open a package somewhere and start getting players, you don't have to book them or even worry about their bets, the sportsbook takes care of everything and you receive your check every couple of weeks. The only thing you have to do is get as many player as you can to bet at one shop... You could be making up to $5000 a week in no time depending on the effort you put into it.Comment -

#6Get players and send them to a "package" somewhere... Quarm why should it be Bullshit? There are packages in some sportsbooks that make lots and lots of money... Maybe Bill and John can tell you that I'm not wrong...Comment -

#7SJ what do you do in front of a computer all day?
I absolutely would not recommend it unless you had a business or a great job. The burn out here is high. It sounds good until you have been here a while. Even the guys making good money don't really seem that happy. Now their is exceptions, some guys love it there and will never leave.
Spend some time there before you move there.Comment -

#8you shouldnt move to costa rica.. there just isnt the same benefits
there are so many companies and thingys that provide their services to only US & Canada.. also a lot of sweepstakes are limited to U.S and stuff like that.. and costa rica is small as hell too.. USA is just a better placeComment -

#10Jay- Don't explain it to Quarm. He has no idea how anything works. Also, this stuff is illegal so you should just let it go.Comment -

#11as others might have mentioned above in there own suttle way. working for a book is not a dream job at all. if you just pack up and move down there. then expect you to get a great job right off the bat without paying your dues your wrong. these books are not going to just pay you some nice salary without being a proven commodity. besides, this type of job is not for anyone at all. you have to be able to endure the daily grind.Comment -

#15sjelveh...it's also harder to make the transition than it was 10 years ago because the labor laws are a little stricter and it's a little more of a hassle to employ norte americanos.
I have to agree with the feedback that you're getting that it's goning to be really hard to get a decent job down here.
Also while I might not agree with Jay's numbers and realize it's not something anyone can do, I do agree with him that if you run in gambling circles your best bet for making a living is to find at least a couple dozen bettors that you can put in a "package" that a sportsbook can manage for you. You might also make an effort to meet as many state-side bookmakers as you can so that you can help get them into PPH (pay per head) packages that you can make a commission on.Comment -
