Tennis - How often does the players retire?
Just bet on Sergio Roitman at 6.5 on sportingbet.com.au and apparently one of the guys retired and even thou Roitman won, the bet got cancelled.

That leads me to my question.
How often does retiring happen in tennis (i am a scalper )?

The guy Roitman was going to play I believe was Raemon Sluiter. He didn't retire, he withdrew. Totally different. Not sure what Sportbet has but its probably either one ball or one set.

Nono, it was Roitman vs Kohlschreiber.

It appears as if the bookies had different retiring rules thou. But that doesnt answer my question!

Retirements vary. Thats one of the arts of tennis betting. You have to follow players injuries, because sometimes they just come back to see where they're at. If thats the case than you back the dog at a one-ball book so that you will win when that player retires. However its something that is very hard to predict. You never know when the guy you pick who may be up 6-3, 5-1 in final set may pull a muscle and forced to retire. Trying to win on retirements has to become luck and when your playing with a one-ball or 1 set book, it makes it very nerve racking because even when your guys up you still have to wonder will he complete match?

But if you would say like a percentage of how often there is a the game that one of the players retire in, what would that number be around?

I'd guess maybe 5% or so, higher in the early rounds, lower in the later rounds

If you are arbing and you use two books with different rules then you deserve to pay the price. MUST have same rules or a weeks work can be gone in one match.

In general it's about 1 in 20. In the major events it's closer to 1 in 100. If your arbing and get 2 different set of rules it starts becoming a risky to very risk bet especially if it's 1 ball vs complete match. The risk is you get burned large if the rules are different.

Yeah, it takes a bit of work, but you'd do well to sub group books with the same rules in tennis for arbing purposes. Offhand, I can recall the following stipulations at various books when it comes to a match being considered official:

                    *One ball served
                    *One set completed
                    *Two sets completed
                    *Entire match being completed

Might even be more, if that leaves any possibilities still open.....

                      Pretty much correct stumpage.

Group A – these bookies settle bets ONLY if the FULL number of sets has been completed and no player has retired due to injury or other problems after the match has started. We refer to this group as the “FULL MATCH” group.

Group B - the newest one on the market. They settle bets in case 2 sets of a match have been completed. Matches in most tournaments (except for the 4 grand slams) are played in best of 3 sets and many of these matches are actually completed within 2 sets. We call them the TWO SETS group.

Group C – they settle bets in case at least one set of the match has been completed before a player retires. We call it the “ONE SET” group.

Group D – these bookies settle bets if the match has started, i.e. at least one point has been scored. The player progressing to the next round of the tournament is declared a winner and bets are settled. We refer to this as the “ONE POINT” group.

Here is a list of the bookies and their rules.

Group A: 10Bet, Admiralbet, Bet365, Cris, Betroyal, Betsafe, Bodog, Canbet, Carib, Gamebookers IAS, Intertops, Paddypower Stanjames, VC and William Hill

Group B BetJam, Pinny, Linesmaker, sports.com Thegreek, sportsbetting, sportsbook

Group C 5Dimes, Bet24, Betuk, betfred, mansion, matchbook, skybet, VIP WSEX, sportingbet, Betfair

Group D. Coral, Eurobet, expekt, ladbrokes Worldbet Betclick Bet1128.

Hope that helps. Please feel free to add additional books.

Excellent, excellent post 20Four7. This certainly does help. I'd never actually gotten around to organizing the whole mess, so a quick synopsis like this is well appreciated.

Terrific post 20, thanks for sharing a greater list of books by rule breakdowns.

Guys it's quite simple, on favourites you want to play as close to an "A" book as you can based on 20Four7's list, and on underdogs you want to play as close as you can at a "D" book. A lot of punters have made money at places such as ladbrokes and 5dimes by betting on underdogs in matches that the favorite has a nagging injury or might be suspect to retire. This way they have two ways of cashing a nice price....having the superior player that day, or having the opponent not be able to finish the match. A lot of punters also love to play underdogs at Group C and D books when extreme heat is involved as well....

Always back favourite with book that requires full match if your going to do cross rules, then as i did at wimbledon last year Nieminen against sluiter £2000 on Nieminen at 1/5 or 1/3 can`t quite remember his price,he retires 2K back plus winnings off sluiter.

only add BETFAIR ( in my opinion the best on tennis betting ) in Group C to complete that perfect list
