Sahara (Las Vegas) closes two hotel towers due to low demand
The Sahara closed two of its three hotel towers for the winter season because of low demand, but the casino and other amentities[sic] will remain open, a property spokeswoman confirmed.

“Two towers of the Sahara Hotel will remain dark based on demand through the holiday winter,” an e-mail statement said late Monday. “Upon further demand, Sahara Hotel will make more rooms available.”

According the Las Vegas Advisor the Mirage is closing 14 floors of one of their towers as well... Vegas and the casinos are generally hurtingand I can't see how the situation will be getting any better with City Center adding thousands of rooms on the strip... On other hand lots of bargins for anyone who has the money to go to Vegas right now as well...

Guess it is unconfirmed as now....

December 15, 2009 Low Demand Forces Room Closures: As we'd heard rumored last week, it's now been officially announced that the Sahara is closing two of its hotel towers through the slow winter season due to lack of demand. When visitation picks up, the rooms will be brought back into service as required. The Mirage is also taking a chunk of its rooms out of service -- we were told a total of 14 floors, but this has not been verified, although a reservations agent confirmed that some rooms are being closed for the time being.

It is incredibly slow here right now. December is notoriously slow aside from the poor economy. Things will pick up after (and during) New Years.

The town is turning into a real dump...sad.

Barney Fife...er...Frank will complete the transition; the new coming gambling laws will help drive the stake into the heart of Vegas.

Glad I got to see it in it's prime.

LOL. Huh? Vegas peaked in 2005-2006... PRIOR to the UIGEA (and the economic downturn). How is it turning into a dump?

Vegas has been spiraling downhill ever since the corporations ran the mob out of town. Used to be a customer friendly place and you were treated great as long as you weren't a cheat. Now it's nothing but a money grubbing tourist trap from the foreign "tunnel rat" taxi drivers to the jacked up bottled water prices at Walgreens.

They are closed only for the holidays. They will certainly be open by New Years. January-April are the peak months here.

What's amazing is how cheap some people are when they're on vacation. They'd rather sit in traffic than pay an extra $5 (one drink or maybe a bet at the blackjack table) to take the freeway. They whine about a few fukkin dollars here and there. They'd rather pinch pennies than have a good time. If you can't fukkin afford it, don't come here.

I got a little taste of the old vegas as a very young man. I stayed at the Dunes on my 1st trip to Las Vegas w/my father. A 1.00 dollar BJ player got free whiskey , cigs/cigars & Steak Dinners. Of course a dollar meant more back then but

I had the same sentiments about the Manhattan Buffet at Luxor. Don't know if it's still there, but it got me real sick.

Chucky is right, when the Mob runs things busness flourishes

Vegas is corporate now which ruined it

Bring back the killings and mob hits and Vegas will boom again
