For those pc users, how is the new Windows Vista?

What do you like about it?

I like Vista even though no one else seems to...

I've actually been pleasantly surprised and impressed with it so far.

I've been using Vista since last week when I put my new pc together.

What I like abouit it:

Speed, it is fast ( I have a dual core AMD 64 @4200 & 2GB RAM), Vista is a pleasant surprise.

Looks: Vista looks great, I never used to be into the "eye candy" as it slowed down my pc. With the system I have it isn't an issue.

Extras: I use Vista ultimate which includes DVD burning, an image backup utility similar to Norton Ghost or Acronis True image.

I have a 200GB hard drive which I've partitioned to (approx) 20GB for Vista and 180GB for Data, when I re-install the OS on the first partition, all my data is untouched on the other partition.

Intuitive: Vista knows that when you move a file/folder to another location it will update linking to that file. For example, "My Documents" was moved by me to the second partition by right clicking and dragging the folder, when I let it go it asked if I wanted to copy or move the folder. I selected move and when I check the properties of the folder they are correct.

Security: while many would argue that M$ cannot make a totally secure system, they have made some improvements that will help novice users. Since I'm the one who gets asked to fix the computers of the people I know, I like this.


What I don't like:

Compatibility: Some programs wont run on Vista and you would have to buy the later (latest) release of some software. This hasn't been a major issue, but it has happened.

Unfamiliarity: I was so used to XP/2000 I could navigate my way around with ease. Vista has made some changes to where files are located and it will take a little time to get used to.

There have been a couple of bugs that were annoying regarding video codecs but I looked online searching Google and found solutions rather easily. Any problem I may have had was easily taken care of using help I found online.

I would recommend Windows Vista. I personally like it and wouldn't go back to XP or 2000.

Vista IMHO is a winner. Some won't feel the need to "upgrade" to Vista because what they currently use for an O/S does the job, I understand that.

If you're getting a new PC/Laptop and it comes with Vista, you'll probably find it refreshing and most likely will be glad you have it.

If you are considering Vista but wanted other opinions, I'd say get it. I'm very happy with it and for the time being the novelty factor is cool too.

Well I am a lifelong PC user heavily considering the transition to the MAC World. I don't like how the recommended RAM is 2gb

RAM is cheap nowadays. If thats your only reason for not wanting Vista I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Mac's are very good. Getting used to using them after being a long time Windows user might take a while.

The best part of Vista for me is you can control sounds for different applications, so you can play your mp3's while shutting off sound in your web browser so you don't have to hear the annoying advertisements in cbs.sportsline.com.

It's not that different than XP to me... I've been using it for about 2 months. It crashes occasionally and I've had some conflicts but other than that its fine.

alright, i am ordering a laptop with vista ultimate.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices -> Sounds -> Windows Explorer -> Complete Navigation; choose 'None'.

I like like it. The only change I had to do on my Laptop is pop an additional 1GB of memory bringing it up to 2GB and it works like a charm. I have the Ultimate Version installed.
