Federer lost to Filippo Volandri in Rome this morning in straight sets. Moneyline on Volandri was +1550. Unbelievable result! Roger was playing well coming into this match beating Almagro in straight sets. Volandri was also playing well beating Gasquet. Still...no excuse for Roger to lose this match. My condolences to those who took the moneyline on Roger.

#2Quite the upset. I wonder how books can even offer to take bets on a matchup like this. Few people want to risk that much money to win that little by taking the huge favorite. So if you had to have action on the match, you would either pass or make a small bet on the favorite. Of course, I am talking out my butt because I don't bet tennis and know nothing about betting tennis.Comment -

#5He is just going through the motions and he knows on clay he is beatable somewhat, so I would not bet him on that surface.Comment -

#7Would you like to elaborate on that,if your lumping on federer to win small amounts at odds of around 1.04 then your asking for trouble.Comment -

#9Federer lost twice in a two week span to Guillermo Canas just a few months ago. He is not right -- we just don't know what's wrong with him because he won't say. Also, this loss in Rome was on clay, which is by far Federer's worst surface.
I'm not saying I was betting against him, but if you follow tennis closely all year, you would know that since the Australian Open win in January, Federer has been in a bit of a funk. My suspicions are he'll struggle a bit at the French, but still probably make the semis. If he meets Nadal it will be in the Finals based on seeding, and he'll be in for a beat-down just like the last two French Opens where he lost 3-1 both times to Nadal.
I suspect he'll be fine by the grasscourt season leading up to Wimbledon, which will be in late June..Comment -

#15I'm hearing reports that the Mafia got to Volandri's opponents and threatened them if they didn't lose. Volandri who was granted a wildcard into the tournament has beaten 3 seeded players including World Number #1 Roger Federer...players he has never beaten before. Should be interesting to see if Volandri gets to the final and beats Nadal.Comment -

#16Certainly could be the case, JJ.
I do know that he complained about blisters on his feet the first time he lost to Canas, though. Does not constitute being hurt but blisters are a pain in the you know what for tennis players.Comment
