What percentage of gaming forum posters are long-term winners?
I would say approximately 90-95% of guys who post on here and other gaming forums are winners in sports betting. A lot of sharp guys on the net....

Sorry I will lower that to 20%.
1) A lot of peoples dont know good money management
2) A lot of peoples bet for the team they think will win and not the one the probability really tell you
3) A lot of peoples dont have the dedication to pass 3-4 hours watching stats and doing lines for having the best edge possible
4) Having to best line doesnt make you win long tearm its just an advantage you have you still need to take the right side

less than 1% for ALL the better
But I think the one posting on forum have more potential because at least they are trying to improve compare to the dumb squares.

i'm down about 500 since i started betting about 8 years ago. that's not a lot considering i included ALL fee's paid, for WD or deposit, disregarding the fee's i'm up about 200. i feel like i've lost a lot more because after big wins ive blown some $.

A lot of educated guesses are bantied about on this topic, ppl throw out random numbers as well. I believe the winning players are a higher number than we might think. Perhaps as high as 10%.
If the winning players are as low as 1%, then why do so many consistent winners get backed off or booted? Isn't it bad business to limit or boot winners who only consist of 1% of the total players?
Books would make so much money off of the 99% of losers that they could easily pay winners and have plenty for themselves with no bad business practices going on.

JJ, if that's the case, are you saying that if you post up, say, $2500 at a book, do not ask for a bonus, turn your original $2500 into $5000 over the football season, and then request your w/drawal in january, that *most* books will have no problem taking you back the next fall, and the next fall, and on and on?
This is an honest question.

Been ban or limited doesnt mean your good...
1) You can be booted because you scalp or arb
2) You can be booted because you bet steam
3) Some book can ban you if you only get luck for 2 weeks and dont have the patience to wait longer
4) You can be booted if you vote a lot of obscur sport and they see you know the sport better than the oddsmaker
And for the percentage I agree that my numbers was nothing verified but the way it is is that:
1) Not a lot of people really win long term (1years and more) money
2) The percentage is better on forum since people are a little better informed but its a lot lower than 50% for sure

I don't ask for or accept bonuses and I don't chase steam. From what I understand, these are the two practices which books dislike the most, right? bonus whoring and chasing steam
***Sorry BuddyBear, don't mean to hijack your thread. I don't know we got on the "booting players" part but I can start a new thread if you'd like.

good point Coach.....
GIG: I would think it depends on the book....but most books would be loathe to continue to accept players who routinely win esepcially with football. If it is simply a guy who makes a single $2500 bet and wins that's one thing but if a guys over the course of 20 weeks beats you, gets the best number, bets steam, etc....then there may be issues.

I'd venture to guess that in any given season we could expect roughly a third of posters to come out ahead.
What fraction of those posters could we expect to come out ahead in the following season? I'd suspect it wouldn't be all that much higher than a third ...

I would say almost none of the top rated books (and why anyone would want to play elsewhere is beyond me) would limit you at all. $2,500 a football season is not a lot to them.

Ganch how did you arrive at 33%? Clearly my 90-95% was meant as a joke....but 33% seems like an interesting and plausible number. Putting together successive profitable season is much harder and would indeed lower that number.

It was just a guess based loosely on performance numbers I've noticed in forum contests.

I would agree with BuddyBear here. I think most of the people you run into on these forums are consistent winners.

Basically it comes down to this...is there reason to believe that gamblers who post on gaming forums are any different than those who don't.....I think there may be differences just b/c those on gaming forums may have higher motivation for inofrmation seeking....just a thought.

Motivation is a key word and so is the effort to find forums like this and be a consistent poster. I used to think I knew a lot but I learned a lot by discussing on here with BuddyBear, Mudcat, Illusion, OWNED, etc. If a player has the motivation and effort to find a place like this, he's on the way to becoming a consistent winner with money management and effort.

Why isn't that 'good'?
For me every kind of betting is 'good' who increases my profit. In case (just as an example) arbing for me is more profitable than beeing a 'sharp' then in my eyes it is better than being a 'sharp'.
(If for you beeing 'sharp' is most profitable then for you it is the best way of course.)

I'd say 5% of all gamblers are long term winners. As to those who scalp or follow steam, if it works go for it. I do know a few bettors who follow the steam and do win. I know I"ve bet a side at Pinny at +105 and got the other side at+108 later, why not lock up the win.
I think it may be larger on the forum posters but I highly doubt more than 15% of all posters are long term winners.
