My thoughts regarding the Yanks' acquisition of the Clemens
    first off,

his salary is ridiculous. 2nd off, is there any guarantee he;'ll be dominate? i'm sure he's still juicing and whatever, but i guess there isnt much of a risk when you have $ pouring out of your asshole.

i think it's a good move by the yanks, the rocket will at least be a #2 pitcher, and could also turn out to be just as dominate as last year.

The Yankees needed to do something to stabilize that staff, and he was the perfect fit.

They need to do something, they are getting rocked by injuries currently. They need more than Clemens I believe they need some help and help fast. It is a start but I think they need to make some deals and get some pitching fast or they are going to fall too far behind the leaders and they will have no chance.

How many "pretty decent" pitchers could they have got for the $20 or so million that Clemens is costing? For a pitcher that is going to give them 6 innings every 5 days (and is not going to be present on days when he isn't pitching) it doesn't really seem to be money well spent.

Plus, if things go south, how long does Clemens' nice deal start to piss off the other players busting their asses and traveling every day? Not long.

Clemens is old, no guaranate he will do well. A waste of money

Smaller market teams have proved you do not need top players to win and do not need real high payrolls to win.

              Suckers!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't Steinbrenner getting a whole SH%T load of money from all branches of government especially local New York City tax payer $$$$$$$ to build a new stadium to replace a national historic landmark.Try knocking some piece of crap building down that you want to build a house on and every non profit group and branch of government will come along and forbid you to do so because it's deemed a historic site.

That's not the point of my story..My point is that billionaire Steinbrenner gets welfare-subsidies to get a stadium to upgrade his hobbie of owning a team and he then has expendable money to overpay people like Clemens. If Steinbrenner had to pay for his own stadium he wouldn't have all that much money to throw around at coveted free agents. He would have been able to pay people like Clemens about 8 million a year instead of 28 million.

Aren't the people in New York taxed up the butt enough already and now they have to pay a hire Roger Clemens tax to boot. What a socialist non capitalist free market country we live in and we bash Cuba for having communism.hehe!

Washongton National??Shouldn't it ne Washington National Socialists???

I thought the Dallas Cowboys were called America's team in nickname only where Jerry Jones just got welfare from Dallas people to build a stadium for his hobbie of owning the Cowboys.

Look at what the entire government is going to do for the Nationals.Since they want urban renewal in their rundown failed city of DC.they want to spruce up the town by building a taj mahal U.S.A.tax payer funded stadium for the Nationals.I would go further to make the nickname of the team more fitting calling them the Washington National Socialists since it's now a socilaist CO-OP government owned team.

Wonder what the odds are that this happens all over again next year with the same or different team?

No one is worth that kind of money. Especially not one old guy that plays in only every fifth game. I hate the Yankees and I hate the Rocket so it's a perfect fit. I don't want to take away from what he's accomplished on the field...he's been terrific. But he's not a stand up guy. Why can't the Yankees invest some of the money by signing prospects? I hope they still finish last in the division...

They have plenty of money to waste so why not take a chance?

Roger will be fine the first 4 or 5 innings. But the AL is tougher. I think he goes something like 9 - 6 with lots of ND's. An ERA of 4.91.

I hope he got them to take the "no facial hair" clause in his contract and by the time he comes to pitch in June, he's got a ZZTop-esque beard.

Clemens is pitching obvioulsy for the $. Considering he takes a few months off, waits for a team that's desperate for pitching, then signs with them....yeah, pretty obvious. Also considering he doesn't even travel with the team. The guy just wants to get paid.

Very, very tough for the avg fan to root for these guys when they try and buy every championship with moves like this. I realize it's baseball's fault for not having a salary cap but these types of moves by Steinbrenner just make me root against them more and root more for the teams with homegrown talent or much lower bankrolls..

I'm more concerned with this being the future for a lot of star players, not whether or not just Clemens keeps doing it. What's to keep a lot of 40+ stars from pulling this same stunt from now on? Just think MLB needs to put some new rule in place that you have to be signed to at least a minor league deal by Opening Day in order to be eligible to play in the majors that season.

Clemens is strategic...he picked a team that is going to accomodate his insane travel requests, he picked a team that he knows is not going to be competitive therefore there won't be much pressure on him to pitch well, and a team who could afford his ridiculous salary. I don't blame him I would have done the same..i mean when you are being thrown that kind of money why would you even consider retiring.
