The book has the advantage - otherwise they wouldn't offer it.

The book has the advantage of course.... but the grade of the advantage differs.
Eg. Bet365 has a huge advantage because they just cancel winning bets whenever they want to.

Both Taco and Slash are 100% correct on there points.
Another thing we shouldn't forget is the 7 second time delay factor that most people seems to get on the TV/radio coverage. Thats a big advantage the books have, because I'm sure they have the no delay wild feed type setups when they offer those selected games they choose.

I must respectfully disagree and say that the books generally do not receive information faster than the players and if the players want to work a bit harder they can have the advantage (radio). As for bet365, yes, they are likely to take a shot at a player if the opportunity arises.
Let me talk a bit more about radio for a second. As a general rule radio simply is ahead of TV. Not so much that you can be Biff in Back to the Future II but enough that you shouldn't feel cheated.

the thing i find interesting is they overprice swings in the game
this happens all the time but i remember ohio st scored that first td vs florida and pinny had florida +14.5 and I can't even remember the money line but it was generous
the team doing well at the moment has crappy odds
this can off course reverse itself over the course of the game a few times and most people will tend to play the momentum with crappy odds so i believe the books can gain a good advantage here most times
they do tend to make more mistakes i feel doing live betting but it is not "easy" to find them but more frequent IMO

I agree with what's been said in this thread. Yes, the books always have the "advantage" in any form of gambling or else they wouldn't offer it. Yes, they do make mistakes however, which astute players can "take advantage" of. Yes in live betting, overpricing swings is a mistake you tend to see more often than most, but you have to be looking and ready to pounce when the opportunity arises, which might not be worth it in the long run. And yes it is obvious the world is ending.

The only advantage that most books have is that squares always pile into the team that is winning, especially if they are up by a margin of say 2 scores or more, regardless of the price. Thus a lot of in play books lay very short prices (that are too short of course) and win large when there is a turnaround.
