And those $10 casino tokens from Nevada may be worth more than that for the silver content.

You won't get these prices, deduct about 10%.

You should get about 15.5X of face value today from an honest buyer.

wear isn't factored in. It all sells for the same multiple of face value. Some would prefer an old coin that is worn to a near new one from the early 60's.

The bottom is about to fall out of both the gold and silver markets, mark my word.

                          Fall. the. fu*k. out.

I'll reference this post in the near future when it happens, so all of the "sky is falling" / "buy high sell low" folks can't say I didn't warn them.

I have 19 silver dollars from the 1800's. They are all in pretty decent condition. Wondering if there is collectable value in addition to just the value of the silver. Have had them since the 80's, and back then I seem to recall I got them for $5.50 apiece or so.

Have paid no attention to them since those years and really know very little about coins and/or silver. Anybody got a ballpark figure on these?

Yes, numismatically valuable collector coins are a whole different animal. Most of what non numismatists are likely to own falls under junk silver, so 15X face value is the minimum you should take for pre 1965 dimes, quarters, and halves regardless of condition if selling. Real silver dollars , pre- 1936 are worth a bit more at minimum.

Halves of 1965-9 are worth around $3. Nickels from 1942-5 about $1. some 1942's are not silver all 1943-5 are.

Wheatback cents pre- 1959 are worth 5 cents in bulk.

Cents from before 1982 are copper and worth a maybe 1.5 to two cents, but are illegal to melt. current nickels contain their face value in copper and nickel....not a bad thing to hoard.

they are better than melt value, more like $20 a coin minimum.

Silver dollars have more silver than 4 quarters, 10 dimes, etc.

plus a premium as a collector item.

absolutely yes. They are the same metal ( 75% copper, 25% nickel) as today so it's not for metallic value.

average condition common dates with a full date go for about $1 each retail....look on ebay.

even ones with the dates worn off entirely fetch about 15-20 cents in bulk for use as jewelry items....they really need to be in quantity though for that. A coin dealer in NY won't want a few of them, they need bags of them to ship to AZ, NM, etc. for the "Indians" to make tacky jewelry out of.

If one is inclined to try to see if their coins might be rarer dates, try this link....

click on the appropriate series in question. You'll need to know where to find any mintmark....on the reverse of any non-modern coin. If you see something that starts out high, then it is valuable, like a 1916-D dime. Start in the far left column ( lowest grade).

For example with Peace dollars look under the "4" column. that's very low grade. You want 1921 and 1928.
