Trevor May rips Athletics owner while announcing retirement
Athletics relief pitcher Trevor May ripped owner John Fisher while announcing his retirement on his Twitch stream Monday, telling Fisher to "sell the team."

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Trevor May ripped owner John Fisher while announcing his retirement on his Twitch stream Monday.

"Sell the team, dude. ... Sell it, man,'' he said. "Let someone who actually, like, takes pride in the things they own, own something. There's actually people who give a s--- about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy's money somewhere else, dork."

Fisher, whose parents founded Gap, is attempting to relocate the A's to Las Vegas in a move heavily criticized by Oakland fans. Fisher has been unloved by the fan base for years as the team routinely ranks near the bottom in payroll.

    The A's finished a major-league-worst 50-112 this season.

"If you're going to be a greedy f---, own it," May said. "There's nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras. ... Do what you're going to do, bro. Whatever, you're a billionaire, they exist, you guys have all this power -- you shouldn't have any because you haven't earned any of it, but anyway, whatever."

A veteran of nine years in the majors, May spent his first six with the Minnesota Twins before two seasons with the New York Mets. The 34-year-old right-hander had 21 saves for the A's in 2023 and went 4-4 with a 3.28 ERA in 46⅔ innings.

He finished his career on an impressive roll, going 1-0 with nine saves and 0.00 ERA in his final 15 appearances.

Although I'm happy the A's are coming to Vegas (so I can see the Visitor teams that I like), Trevor is my new hero. I haven't heard anyone call someone a "Dork" in a long time.

It won’t matter though. Owners are the epitome of greed

It's kind of funny and ironic, though. Small market owners like the A's and Pirates tend to be very cheap and always are near the bottom of MLB team salaries. Everyone (media, players, fans, etc) bashes them for being cheapskates and says they should sell the team or relocate! they bitch and complain why doesn't the owner improve the team and get quality players but YET these same very people are the ones that bitch and complain when guys like George Steinbrenner goes out and shells hundreds of millions dollars every year and tries to sign all of the good players and top free agents! they say "I hate the Yankees! Always trying to buy a championship" or something along those lines! Ditto for the Dodgers! always making moves before the trading deadline and signing players to huge, ridiculous contracts and then get tarred and feathered for doing so! Sorry people you can't have it both ways. IMO, I'd much rather have an owner that spends his money and at the very least is doing everything in his power to put a a quality product on the field instead of a cheapskate who doesn't give a fuk if the team wins or loses!

Unfortunately even if he sold the team there's no guarantee the next guy would be any better. Anybody that comes into Oakland can hide behind the 'small market' nonsense when in reality he/the team is most likely swimming in money. If I recall correctly one of the reasons they're trying to move is California taxpayers would not subsidize the building of a new stadium. Boo-hoo, I would actually have to pay for this thing that I'm going to profit massively off of. It's all a sham.

Many in these positions of power (especially if they haven't earned it) are hopelessly out of touch with the rest of us.

21 saves for the A's - No runs in his final 15 appearances! Trev should reconsider that retirement...
