In all fairness, they probably overachieved... Strong finish to the year, but aren't quite ready for a Super Bowl chip.

Niners are done. Division is super tough and Lance isn't any good, IMO.

Niners should have won this game easily. Look at these bonehead plays.

Up 17-7, dope DB gets a 15-yard penalty for taunting after Kupp had a 2-yard pass gain on first down. Jump started the TD drive.

Up 17-14, Niners had 2nd and 1. They lose a yard on a run up the middle, then no gain on another run up the middle and punt on 4th down instead of going. They didn't run the ball well all night, should have thrown short to Kittle on 3rd or 4th down.

After the punt, DB drops a punt-style interception, which would have been devastating for the Rams to send their D right back on the field.

You're right; why did Shanahan drop that easy interception? What a stiff.

How’d he get the job to begin with? Guy is terrible and in key moments he looks a helluva lot less cocky than normal.

Jimmy G was 5-1 ATS in the playoffs as the SF starting QB (only loss in the SB).

The Niners have a great roster. They are not going anywhere. They will still be a force in the NFC for a few more years.

Lance is way too raw and their division is tough. I see less than 10 wins next season.

Hit the nail on the head. Jimmy G had a cinderella story... winning what he did. He's missing something.... probably height. Needs more velocity on his passes. Shanahan did what he could do. I think he did a wonderful job.

Especially when two months ago nobody had SF even sniffing a Super Bowl... They were right on the brink of missing the playoffs altogether but somehow rose to the occasion and strung together road wins at Rams, Cowboys, and Packers to put themselves in position to be one drive away from a Super Bowl berth. I'd say that's a credit to Shanahan rather than a reason to flame him.

Truth be told, McVay was arguably worse than Shanny tonight but survived because he has a quarterback with a pulse.

You could see the scared, tense, unsure look in his face and eyes when they got behind toward the end (Shanny). Jimmy G. did what Jimmy G. does best when he HAS to comeback in a playoff game. Take a sack, look scared, and nearly full-blown nerves shaking. Its so apparent. When the Rams were down, I said to my buddy....they will win by exactly 3 points. Sure enough, once Jimmy had that last crack at throwing the pick he had to throw at some point (he surely did). I just knew he would do that. I really thought he would sack/fumble on that last possession, or the pick was coming. The pick of one per game is nearly on auto-pilot.

They have to hide Jimmy the best they can, but its not enough to ever win a SB.

True. Deebo, Kittle, O-Line excellent. Defense underrated and very good. If Lance can develop fast, they could be pretty good. We know Jimmy isn't the answer. Not sure if Lance will be either. That's their main problem right now. Now, if they get Rodgers, then watch out. Or, not sure whom else is out there this year? Or, maybe they trade for someone like Rams did...........

The Niners underachieved this year. Next year they won’t blow games like they did this year. They blew the Green Bay game at home and lost home and away to Seattle and Arizona. That won’t happen again.

Shanahan calls a game to kick fgs and punt. He needs to figure out how to call plays for points. Time of possession doesnt win you a game. He’s been the same for the last 4 yrs.

He was better in Atlanta when he knew his defense sucked. 15 toss sweeps a game is not todays NFL

I think McVay is a Top 5 coach, but he coached one of the worst games you'll ever see last night and got away with it. Those two challenges and blown timeouts, when you're down no less, were simply unbelievable that a coach with his experience would make those mistakes.

Amazing that everyone is so down on Shanahan, Jimmy G and the Niners despite the fact that they've been to two of the last three NFC Championship games.

People overlook SF finished most of the season without Raheem Mostert.
That 49er blueprint was drawn up with him being an important part involved on offense.

He’s won 48% of his games and 2 winning seasons out of 5. Blown leads in big games. Granted, Jimmy G hasn’t always been healthy. The Trey Lance deal is make or break. I think he’s a glorified OC (maybe) with the right last name.

I'd say 28 teams would've love to be in their position before the start of yesterdays game. QBs don't grow on trees.

Andy Reid had a bigger collapse. And the media is giving him a free pass.
