#4The easiest way to change a habit is by substituting it with another habit. So instead of betting on tonight's game, you decide to go out to eat. Or go on a date, or have sex. Some people exchange drugs with another drug. So whatever you substitute, it should be something better you can live with. Every time you think about gambling, you go have sex, or bake a cake???
But the clear, simple and sound way to break a habit is by committing to stop for 21 straight days. All it takes is 3 weeks to create the habit of stopping what you were doing. Once you do that, you then extend it for 90 days. It's a long journey that you take one day at a time.
Most people are not really ready to stop. Most people lie to themselves and say, "yes, I'm going to stop, actually I can stop at any moment but why should I"? Most people make excuses instead of making a commitment. If you can't commit to yourself, the last resort is to seek help from someone else. If you don't do it, eventually your life is going to crash until you hit rock bottom, where you can't pay your rent. The last resort is to confide in someone you trust and let them handle your finances. They control all your money for 21/90 days so that you can't make a bet. After a few months, you will be well on your way.

#11I would lean towards what Mac wrote. Go out and do something or start a new hobby. Back in the day it was a lot easier. I had players just go out at 6:00-7:45ish and not be around to phone in bets. Now it’s much harder with online appts , sportsbooks all around.Comment -

#12Boston - I give these kids information for free here all the time and they don't even know it. Gave out stock and crypto tips a decade ago but these kids still choose to go broke. I once posted a page and a half advice on "game", how to talk and attract women. That shit should have been required reading for these guys. Oh well.Comment -

#17Nothing works except finding something else to do (has to be something you really enjoy)
Running out of money doesnt work. You will find ways to get money. TRUST ME.
also stopping for 3 weeks or whatever doesn't do shit. I once went 3 years without betting on a horse race and I fell harder than I ever had before when I started doing it again.Comment -

#20Successful gamblers like to win. Unsuccessful bettors like to bet.
You have to make yourself have to win to stop. Track your performance. Bet the same amount. When you don't win, you quit. It will not take the first time but keep at it.
Set an amount, you are willing to lose and keep to it. As you get closer to it, the adrenaline level will be higher than ever and the disappointment the worst ever. You can't hit reset. You've got to take the pain.
Bigger problem is you have to find something to do in your life other than gambling which will be the hardest part.Comment -

#25Also the more you lose the more you become numb to it. So losing doesnt cure shit. A few years ago I couldn't even fathom losing over 1500.
Now losing 5 or even 10k and 2 days later I'm chomping at the bit like nothing ever happened.
Thats really really bad. Like how much losing is it gonna take to faze me.Comment -

You've definitely got a problem but your biggest problem is you do not respect money. Easy come, easy go.
There has to be some part of you that thinks that you are going to win because you would not just set money on fire. You have to destroy that hope.Comment -

#31The quick fix as learned in group meetings is "just change seats on the Titanic". Find a different hobby, drugs, sex, golf, rock n roll ect.
To control gambling establish a separate bank account for gambling / entertainment activities and use only that for those purposes.
To ease action gambling [aka g/g fever], become a SBR pro and bet points. Practice with points.Comment -

#35Another thing I would suggest is to paper bet. Before I start betting a sport I always bet on paper first.
If you make yourself have to win by betting on paper before you can bet real money, paper betting will be pretty exciting. And you ain't ever getting there.
Once you start looking at your overall record and how likely you are to win, it is going to have to have an effect on you.
That's the difference between a real gambler and a degen. A real gambler likes that kind of challenge.
If you can't make it through that, you cannot win. Make yourself win on paper for at least 250 bets and earn your way to betting real money. And then make yourself have to win to keep betting.
You've got to change the game.Comment
