    Who makes the nfl schedule?
Just asking. I don't honestly know. It seems very suspicious.

Maybe Roger Goodell? Why is it suspicious? I mean it is supposed to be kinda random.

      Nothing suspicious LB

A team of six broadcasting executive make the schedule
Just like the old 16 game schedule each division plays division foes twice (home and home)
      That's six games.

Four games conference games (2 home 2 away) in the same division.
For instance NFC South vs. NFC East
      That's ten games.

      Four out of conference games.
For instance NFC West vs. AFC South (that rotates yearly)
      That's 14 games

Two conference games outside your division that you haven't played yet.
      That's 16 games

This is the first season there's 17 games.
The 17th game now will be a non conference game determined from the previous season

Only difference this year. 1 extra game from other conference. 5 inter conference games instead of 4. Extra game looks kinda random. NFL rotates AFC, NFC Divisions like they been doing.

It's one long, never ending rotation.

It's not who they are playing next that makes it suspicious, it's who they already played and what happened that makes the next game suspicious.

That said, looking ahead in the schedule can be valuable.

There is nothing in the world like the NFL.

you cant touch a QB anywhere on the head now. That's the rule. Being a short QB, you should get a lot of those penalties called against you.

                                      Yeah, I mentioned that.

However, they have to stick to the formula (rotating divisions, etc. etc.)

I remember growing up listening to Pete Rozelle telling me over and over and over again on how the "Shield" strives for parity.
Parity is good for the NFL and the fans, yadda, yadda, yadda as a kid.

I was actually looking for a touch to the head in that clip, even just a graze,, I didn't see it from that angle.

Follow the money.....who stands to gain from a suspicious NFL schedule?
Seems awfully convoluted to see a huge benefit to any team considering the locked in rules?

They are currently back testing software from a 3rd party vendor for scheduling. I have a friend on the project with the vendor I can't name
(maybe the info is out there). The NFL gave a long list of "priorities" that has to be included in the software and that's been the biggest issue to overcome. So far the NFL is happy with the results and considering leasing the software or have the vendor handle everything on they're end.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the annual owners meeting.

Closest I ever came was just with one owner, on the field of his team's practice, talking to the coach, some coaches, and some team members.

And my Gawd that was as revealing as anything else I've ever done in the industry with just one exception.

That exception being tracking my bets and why I made them.

And that's why I always preach it.

Track your bets and why you made them.

                                                  Sound advice.

Very similar to the words of wisdom a poker pro gave me years ago.

"Willy (nickname), before you enter a pot, ask yourself what are you drawing to, if you're entering a pot with rags and planning a bluff heist, what's the plan to pull it off"

Like KVB says, what are you betting and why are you betting it.

Opponents are not suspicious, it is all predetermined in advance which divisions play which divisions and opponents are based on previous years standings.

So following up on Stevenash Post #3, for the two conference games outside your division that you haven't played yet and for the new added non-conference games, the previous season's first place teams in those divisions play each other, same thing with second, third and fourth place teams.

The only place where "suspicion" could set in is in laying out the actual dates of the schedule.
