But I'd venture to say. An owner betting his team to lose is how the earlier /first owners made their money and became millionaires. Most earlier owners had mafia ties and we're racetrack/horse bookies and owners.

I don't know Snyder, so I have no clue but the feds have been investigating the organization for almost 2 years now. Where there's smoke, there's fire. The feds don't spend that much time and money and not pinch someone. A lot of wealthy people think they are above the law. It makes perfect sense he would try any and everything to win. They don't do it for the money as much as for the fame and drive to win.
The NFL has fined the Washington Football Team $10 million and owner Dan Snyder is stepping away from day-to-day operations for several months after an independent investigation found the organization's workplace "highly unprofessional," especially for women.
Lawyers representing 40 former Washington employees slammed the NFL for choosing to protect Snyder and ignoring requests to make the report public, calling the fine "pocket change."
"This is truly outrageous and is a slap in the face to the hundreds of women and former employees who came forward in good faith and at great personal risk to report a culture of abuse at all levels of the team, including by Snyder himself," lawyers Lisa Banks and Debra Katz said in a statement.

Petrino signed a 10 year deal with Louisville, told them he was committed to the program then bolted to the Falcons to coach Michael Vick. He left a 4 sentence laminated note on each players locker. He ends up at Arkansas.
He gets in a motorcycle accident, says he was alone, then got caught that he was riding with an ex Arkansas volleyball player that he illegally put on the Arkansas payroll. He gave the girl a cash Christmas gift of $20,000 using college funds. He circumvented affirmative action laws by hiring her without considering any other candidates. She was not even qualified for the position. He said he needed a recruiting assistant right away.
Petrino is total scum. He did unthinkable shit and is able to work today. Gruden saying a lot of dumb shit is nowhere as bad as Petrino. There's a lot more Gruden types out there than Petrino scumbag types. Grudens shit is sticks and stones, lockerroom talk. The guy can coach. Someone will give him a second chance. But the severity of the offenses is in the current perception of the transgressions.
All transgressions are not equal in any given point in history.
At this moment in time, disapproval for Gruden's offenses concerning race, sexual preference and women's rights trumps extra-marital and financial discretions committed by Petrino.
