Kinda seems odd you loved it since you are a Boston gambler? I would have thought it brought back awful memories. I know people didn’t like them here in Pittsburgh either, but I was 4 so that was over my head.

How freakin dumb were the divisions in NL in 86? Atlanta and Cincinnati west and St. Louis and Chicago East. Maybe a map would have worked. I remember liking the expos because of the logo.

Naw, I liked them. I remember watching them all summer long on WOR. Of course I would of preferred if the Sox beat them in the WS.

In the late 1960s the National League was prepping to expand from 10 to 12 teams to include Montreal and San Diego. The alignment right before the approval vote was what you would have expected:

NL East: Atlanta, Cincy, Montreal, New York, Philly, Pittsburgh
NL West: Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Fran, St. Louis, San Diego

But legend has it that right before the approval, the Mets complained that they would have less home games against St. Louis, SF and LA. The first being a top pennant contender that could draw large crowds, and the latter being big rivalries given their previous NY addresses and therefore able to draw big attendances as well. The Mets wanted at least one of these teams in their division.
Of these 3 teams, obviously none of them made geographic sense to move to the East but the Mets insisted. In the end, SF and LA made the least sense so St. Louis got realigned to the East while Atlanta got moved to the West.
But then the Cubs complained that this screwed with their games allotted with St. Louis (keep in mind, this was one of the top rivalries). As a result, Chicago got moved to the East and Cincy reluctantly moved over to the West.

I figured there was some kind of backstory. Gate was huge back then with barely any TV games.

I meant the people actually going to the games was relied on more than tv contracts. Would make sense the Mets wanted the Dodgers and giants in the same division.

Anyways I liked it, but I felt like it was a bit rushed on day 2. Maybe should have been more like a 5 or 6 hour series. Still pretty good. Would have liked more on the after life of these guys for sure. Had no idea that was ray knights last season for the mets. Hernández was right though, the team was destined to fall apart at any time. They should have built around Kevin mitchell, what an idiotic trade.
