If you guys remember some of the names in this lineup, then you're an old timer.

      1971 Pirates. We are family.

Willie Stargell 104 walks 125 RBI. Manny Sanguillen 559 AB's .319 BA 19 walks. "You don't walk your way off the island" he used to say. He never saw a pitch he didn't like. Roberto Clemente 37 years old batted .341. Doc Ellis is said to have pitched a game tripping on acid.

Nash that was the song for the 79 team. The song wasn’t even recorded until 1978. What I love about this team though is that they won the won World Series. That makes this moment in history way more special. It would look gimmicky if say they had the record the 2021 pirates have and they did it.

I'm aware, however I thought it was appropriate.

Apparently it is true he threw a no hitter on 6/12/70 while tripping on acid. I found the story while searching google. Check it out. He wasn't supposed to be pitching while pulling an all nighter but then he found out he was pitching that day.

I love the fact that Dock Ellis was the starter.

The game or games that changed baseball is when the Houston Astro's cheated and were banging on the drums to work the signs and pitches in game against the Dodgers and stole that world series.

In that situation, Pittsburgh manager Danny Murtaugh would have normally followed conventional wisdom and played the matchup, penciling in Oliver’s platoon partner, the right-handed hitting Bob Robertson, at first base.
Bob Robertson actually hit right-handed pitchers better than lefties during his career.

It is a strange feeling to think that I am one of the few people who could have guessed that. Like how I also guessed Doug Mientkiewicz was a left-handed hitter who hit lefties better than righties, then looked it up and found out that is correct.

Doc Ellis. Yeah I'm sure I saw him pitch vs. the Mets at Shea Stadium somewhere in the '70s when he pitched for the Pirates.

Nice to see this team get honored this season. Pirates actually hit a walk off grand slam to win the game they were at. I always felt they seemed to get less attention than the 1960 team who surprised the Yankees and the 1979 team which was flashier. All of this before my time.
