Pac 12 shouldn’t want anybody left from the Big 12……….Unless this is a plan to not have OU and UT play anymore Big 12 conference games immediately until they join the SEC to stick it to them.

Only draw left in the big 12 is OkSt
Kansas if you want their bball program
I think what the Pac 12 is realizing is it will eventually be a two conference system
SEC and whoever else survives, which eill almost certainly be the Big 10
They're all just trying to survive as long as they can

Why would Christian schools like Baylor and TCU want to be aligned with uber liberal PAC 12 schools?

Same reason why they have football programs at those Christian schools...

I think this is ESPN just making good for the two conferences. Give them some money and everybody is happy. It works out well enough. Just stick Arizona and Arizona State over there and problem is solved.

Unfortunately administrators dictate policy and to me as a Christian it would be hypocritical of them to make such a move. The majority of fans watch sports for entertainment value not because of money.

Well Texas Christian schools have been in two of the biggest NCAA football scandals and TCU has been busted for cheating so they are not exactly slumming it.

If the Big 12 expands and ESPN gives them money, they will be OK. My guess is they agree to a schedule arrangement and ESPN gives them both some money for it to keep them happy and it works out OK. It is probably better for the Big 12 schools to stay in the Big 12 rather than go to the American and that is not good for ESPN either. It is a good way to make things work.

I'm all for it. This would be huge for football ratings. Oklahoma St vs Oregon every year? Sign me up. The scoring will be in the triple digits.

They will not be playing Oregon but once every 10 years. If it happens, they will probably chunk Colorado and Utah over there since they do not want them anyway or the Arizona schools. They would still basically be separate conferences.

A merger actually probably works better than a scheduling arrangement. If you are the Big 12, you definitely do not want to add Houston to the conference because they will probably kick your ass. Adding BYU or Boise does not do much for you. But if you combine with the Pac 12, you do not have to add teams and you get a bigger payout. It works for the Pac 12 too because they get more money from ESPN most likely.
Really does not make a whole lot of sense for the Pac 12 but if ESPN will give them money to do it, they probably will. It would work pretty well for ESPN and solve a big problem for them.

PAC12 loves this idea. Being on west coast they got only 1 time slot.
With merger they get Eastern (WVU), Central, Mountain & Pacific. It's brilliant actually. Live football and basketball all day long on game days.

They are not crazy about it unless they get more money. If you get more money, anything is a good idea.

Pac 12 teams actually make less than Big 12 teams from what I have read but Big 12 teams obviously made their money because they were associated with Texas. So Big 12 teams apparently make 37 million versus 32 million for the Pac 12. Now Big 12 teams are probably worth about $15 million. No loss for the Pac 12 obviously so if these conferences merge, it is just because ESPN is willing to pay out for the conference to keep the brands relevant.
A scheduling arrangement would be a good thing for the Pac 12 because it will boost the non-conference and add a little TV money. I can't see it helping enough to bring in the Big 12.

True but it’s quite the opposite for schools, even Christian schools, as they have sports to make money not simply to provide entertainment for the fans. And not just make money but make huge profits over low costs overhead.

West Virginia has to get to the ACC, otherwise, those road trips to USC, Oregon State and Washington State are gonna suck.

West Virginia is like all of the Big 12 schools left. Nobody wants them. I don't know why the ACC would want to give them money. They could not get in before because they didn't want them. Why would they want them now? TCU is the same. They just got in as filler because the Big 12 needed more schools and they were afraid of Houston. They figured TCU was a solid program and would stabilize the rep of the conference so they let them in but they barely got in the Mountain West. It was the same with WVU. They did not add much but they made the reputation better. Nobody wants them. Nobody wants Baylor. They are basically a Mountain West school without playing Texas teams.
So all of these schools do not add much because the Big 12 is the only conference now in need of reputation enhancement. All of these schools drop way down without a lifeboat and free money.

West Virginia has 180,000 population and in a poverty state with only 2 million people. They cannot even afford the Big 12 package. Hard to say which is more unattractive between them all.

When the Big 12 was formed, they did not want Baylor. They were going to put TCU in because they were in Fort Worth so they thought it was better for TV. But the governor of Texas was from Baylor. So they had their minds changed real fast.
When the Pac 10, thought they had Texas, they made sure they would not have to take Baylor so they added Colorado so that when the Texas legislature wanted Baylor in, they could say they only had room for four and they already had Colorado.
When Texas A&M wanted out of the Big 12, some thought the politicians would step in. But the governor went to Texas A&M.
When Texas left the SEC, some thought the politicians might step in. But the governor went to Texas.
Once you lose all the TV money, you go back to what you were to begin with. That is why Texas got out. They are tired of getting beat with their own money.

Houston is a Top 25 program on its own but they do not have any TV money so they are just an American Conference team. If you put them in the Big 12, they beat out A&M and Texas for recruits. That is why you do not put them in the Big 12. The Big 12 almost let them in a few years ago because they panicked but the Big 8 schools threw a fit because they said they could not compete with Houston.
That is also why Holgerson went to Houston. It is a better job than West Virginia. They were not willing to give him enough TV money. Houston was.
No major conference will allow Houston in their conference.

American is a little stronger conference than Mountain West. The Mountain West is getting better at the bottom and worse at the top. Boise is going into decline which is inevitable. Houston, SMU, and UCF rising. USF will have their day again. They have too many advantages over the Mountain West. Mountain West are total zeroes as far as recruiting and TV markets go.

Houston and UCF would probably win the Mountain West easily in the next 10 years. Memphis is better than most Mountain West teams. I mean you are talking about Air Force. Air Force, Navy and Army should be the worst teams in college football. If you are worse than those teams, you are just getting dominated coaching wise.

Fresno had a good team that year. Fresno would go 4-6 against Houston in the next 10 years at best. If not, Holgerson is getting fired.
