I just got paid out on a sportsbook withdrawal and the book sent the withdrawal to Coinbase when I gave them an address generated on Coinbase Pro. The book asks for the wallet provider which I have never seen before. Anybody know how to avoid this in the future?

Phone?
Msg/email?
They shouldn't be asking period.

#5They request it on the withdrawal page. It is not confidential information and doesn't matter too much. It did in this case though.Comment -

#6My only guess is that the book has an account with Coinbase and maybe they send via the wallet that is provided and somehow it gets overidden to Coinbase. It is really more of a Coinbase issue than book issue.Comment -

#14I gotta say this is pretty damn clever by the book. If they are sending from the same bitcoin wallet, you are probably not going to be nailed for transferring from a sportsbook. It was a bad development but live and learn.Comment -

#16no need to log into coinbase.com. you can just hit the deposit button on coinbase pro and choose to deposit from your coinbase account.Comment -

#18I can't get coinbase to answer the phone. Answer an email, or tell me to go penetrate myself. Do you really need an exchange. Can you buy and withdraw straight from a wallett. Still trying to figure out bit coin.Comment -

#23That what I said. It was more of a coinbase issue than a book issue. I assume the book sent from a Coinbase account and it was sent to Coinbase rather than Coinbase Pro as a result. Just a small and slightly costly annoyance but it is usually so with bitcoin.Comment -

I used Gemini before but they upped their fees. I am not aware of any better option than Coinbase PRO but definitely avoid Coinbase. Unfortunately, you do have to get set up with them to get started which is not easy.Comment -

#25Send it to a wallet then to Coinbase or Coinbase to wallet then to sportsbook.
Yes more fees but these are the steps you need to take if you don't want to get banned from exchanges.Comment -

#27Good advice. But when was the last time anyone got banned sending bitcoin? I can't recall seeing that since the early days when these places were trying to get their bank status. Not sure that is even an issue any longer and depends on how often you transfer. I don't make that many deposits so not too worried about it. It is such a pain in the ass I am not sure I would mind getting banned.Comment -

#29It is the best way. Coinbase for sure. Maybe not Coinbase PRO. You take your chances. There are other ways of doing things. If you are a degenerate or professional gambler, it pays to be cautious. I throw caution to the wind because I don't care.Comment -

Even though it was widely known early on, because of the inconsistent account closing with coin base, it hasn't been as frequent of an issue.
But it's clear some aren't reading the terms of the Coinbase, or understand US laws. I can't beleive even new BTC users still make this error. I suppose it doesn't matter until someone decides it matters. Probably not worth the risk to the coinbase wallet though.
If you are sending from your book straight to CoinBase you really have little recourse here when something happens. It's a mistake to think that because nothing has happened, that you didn't do something wrong...because you did...lol.Comment -

#34I did the whole middle wallet thing back in the Bovada bitcoin bonus bonanza and then Gemini came out and I realized Gemini was not going to care what you did with your bitcoin because they were a trading operation. Then I found out about Coinbase Pro which I don't think tracks these things at all but may bust someone from time to time. I don't make a whole lot of deposits so not a big deal if I do get caught. It will be a minor hassle and there is basically no chance it happens.
But every person has to assess their own risks. If you are making lots of deposits and withdrawals then you should do the dance.Comment
