#37An absolute legend if you are a Laker fan, as Johnny Most holds the same spot in the heart of all Celtic fans.
Both total homers. These guys meant so much more to home town fans before cable.
Used to have Most on the radio while the Celts were on my console Magnavox in black and white, shitty def and couldn`t have been happier.Comment -

#38"And we're underway at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario!"
I very much enjoy the enthusiasm for every pitch of the game on display with Tom Hamilton. He is the radio play by play announcer for the Cleveland Indians. Started in the 1998 season, a position he still holds.
In the offseason, Hamilton calls college basketball games (usually Ohio State games) for the Big Ten Network.
I'm not from Cleveland, but make a point to listen to the Cleveland home-team broadcast on SiriusXM, especially when the Indians are facing a good opponent. If you are a baseball fan but not familiar with Hamilton's calls, tune-in sometime when MLB resumes.Comment -

Jack Buck and Vin Scully for baseball.

#51If you ask someone who is the "Michael Jordan" of sportscasters, many people over the age of 45 would say Howard. And some who are younger.
He really might be the only one who has icon status. He wasn't the best, but there really is no denying his standing.Comment -

#60Depends on the sport.
Football-- Pat Sumerall
Basketball-- Marv Albert "Yes, from downtown"
Hockey-- Don't know his name but the dude who does it now for NBC. He sounds excited to even see a puck dropping and I don't think he actually breathes.
Baseball-- I don't watch this crap so I go with Bob Uker or however you spell it.
Soccer-- Just kidding nobody watches that shit.Comment -

#61I would have to say the most entertaining announcer was the late, great Johnny Most (radio voice of The Boston Celtics)
A raspy voice, a marked home bias and a sharp, scathing wit endeared him to Celtic fans of the 80s.
Just a few gems (at least for some) come to mind. Lighting his lower pants on fire by dropping his cigarette head at a game in Milwaukee was an amazing and hilarious event to witness. His voice partner, Glenn Ordway announced "If you're just joining us, my colleague Johnny Most has just lit his pants on fire. Attendants are scrambling in an effort to extinguish the flame." Ordway's voice was cracking with held-back laughter. Can't make this up.
At the same venue the next year, Johnny opens the broadcast:"We're here at the Milwaukee Arena tonight with the fans filing in, the game about to start, and the security guards giving me the evil eye."
Johnny's wit was evident at a Philly game when Ordway reminds him that Charles Barkley said he was a "wrinkled up prune". When asked for a rebuttal Johnny states he won't respond; he doesn't want to be accused of child abuse.
When the former Supersonic Jack Sikma repeatedly takes falls in an attempt to draw the foul, Johnny comments: "The Baby Face Assassin; he's built like the Empire State Building, but I swear to God a flea could knock him down."
When announcing Rocket games he would not call Rick Barry by name. "Dunleavy..into the Cry Baby, Cry Baby inside to Paultz...back out to the Cry Baby..."
Back at Philly he announces: "..and Barkley gets the rebound, comes up the left side, and I think he sneered at me on the way by."
Rick MaHorn and Jeff Ruland were affectionately dubbed "McFilthy and McNasty".
He suggested during a game that Kelly Tripuka majored in "Cryin 101" at Notre Dame.
Perhaps some New Englanders have more.

#66Most was awesome. He always called Charles Barkley "the bread truck." According to Kevin McHale, Johnny once left the the booth in the middle of a game at the Philadelphia Spectrum to punch a fan who was heckling him. He always looked a good 20 years older than his actual age... the wonders of cigarettes.
