Honestly I am just happy we have any racing at all.
Same.... even though after making a couple hundred last week, down six hundred this week

Great question, So in general sloppy track for dirt horses is an overrated angle. Good horses run pretty much the same. However there are certain horses that absolutely hate it, and picking those is how I use that angle in handicapping to toss a horse. I will always give horses a chance to show me what they can do on the flip side, if they have say ran both races on off tracks and gets the fast surface for the first time. I want to give them a chance.
On the turf, i believe it plays a much bigger factor as they are more particular horses. A yielding turf track can make a difference of the pace, as opposed to firm turf track. Some horses have a more difficult time of it , trying to get the late kick going.
I could write for hours on just that one question and many like it.
I give the cliff notes, every capper is different.
But as always its all situational.
Just to elaborate on this , when playing horses in the slop you generally wanna be forwardly placed early. Jockeys wear several sets of googles but many horses don’t like the mud kicked back in their face. When you see one close covered in mud , you that pony is a goodie ...
when handicapping , I look at the conditions 1st, then try and determine who’s going to the front . Estimated the pace is extremely important
try and play the race out In your mind
but I’ll have to write much more on which tracks are faster than others
believe it or not times aren’t always similar
it’s so much to write on,
my advice pick a track
follow the barns and riders
start from there
I learn everyday
and been doing it 20/+ years
I’ll continue to write when im
playing
you can pick up a few things along the way
I need several thousands of pages to share the info
and if even then
it’s all situational
thanks for the feedback

When you follow one track go start , you can look at the running lines and know the top 3 finishers , know the horses...
their are other tools out there like formulator that I use to help with trainer stats
it’s comparable to baseball splits
tendencies
after you finally grasp handicapping this sport
you gotta then learn how to wager properly , and it can be so addicting
that judgement and passing on races becomes ultra important
jeez I need chapters on breeding alone
you can’t read a book and figure it out
you have to love the sport #1
it eats the best of best alive
with that being said, if your not a degen , you play rather cheaply
no gamble is more self satisfying

Most horse bettors at OTB, are disappointed even after wins
they say “ I shoulda Woulda” after a win
ive done the same
still do at times
attack a track / meet
with a plan
it’s not gonna work out a lot
don’t chase
however , keep an eye on the tote, as some overlays create value
but that is both the gift and curse of this Game
”it only takes one”
yeah well that philosophy applied wrongly with you have you playing Australia B , until 2am
I’ve been through it all
tvg dudes are all rich kids ,
the girls on there are horsemen
I’m not a horsemen , haven’t even fed a horse a carrot/ apple / peppermint
I’m also not in the owner game
str teaches me everyday , I think sometimes he sees my posts
and says “ ah man, I gotta respond to this “
I’m just handicapper , hoping one day I can get closer to the sport an any fashion.

I love maiden races , because I feel I have the strongest edge on the public
certain times the tote board can help advise you as well
