i think for a bet to be taxed it has to pay more than 600 to 1 odds.

Betting this much is dumb unless you have winnings to offset.

This large of a sum, there will definitely be a paper trail that the IRS would follow.

You lose though, you can’t deduct it against your income. Dumb to bet such amounts unless guy is a billionaire where it’s peanuts (can write off 2% of AGI total for gambling losses).
