    Tennis grading question
Tennis experts can you tell me what happened in the Keys-Kerber
match just now? It was tied at 1 set each and 2-2 in the 3rd set. What was the outcome for wagering on this match. One site posted refund/and another site posted Keys as the loser. Thanks in advance. gl all

depends on the book if prebet before match then some books count whatever happens after the 1st set is completed to be valid that includes retirements other books count full match to be completed so if retirements then monies are refunded live bets will be refunded with all books as far as I know

            Check their rules.

It's common for tennis rules to vary book to book.

Some books will refund everything, some will grade ML bets as long as 1 set was completed. All bets on the handicapp are refunds.

Thank you Optional -JJ - and all who replied - I have indeed read all the rules of each site I play at-- pre-match and live wagering. Just too bad each has different policies- My own theory was to make this more transparent. After one serve the player who advances wins the pre-match wager. This would eliminate match fixing a little. Some players are told to re-tire if they are going to lose. We all know this tactic all to well.
Just like the crazy rule tn baseball wagering on totals in a suspended game-- you bet over 9 in a game-- it is 7-7 in the 7th inning- game suspended -you bet over or under and you get a refund--- happened alot when Cubs played only day games. My only wish is that Keys was indeed unable to finish.
My agent paid-- called fair play-- and the spirit of the rule.
Again thanks for the serious replies--- gl to all

Some books require just 1 ball served for action. Some need 1 set, a few need 2 sets and most of the rest need match complete for action.

Regular tennis bettors use 1 ball or 1 set books when betting against questionable fitness players, and match complete books when betting anyone with an injury question.

So it's really a bit of an advantage to bettors.

What I like to do on Betfair Exchange (it pays the ML bets after 1 set completed) is as following:

Let's suppose Player A is doubtful because of injury, but he still starts the match.
I will back Player B on the ML market, and back Player A 2-0 and Player A 2-1 (in a best of 3 sets).

If player A retires during the match, after the first set, you will win the ML bet, the other bets will be voided. In the worst case you lose a bit of money because of the juice if player A wins.

Obviously the worst that could happen is that Player B unexpectedly retires after the first set

All dependent on how your site or book grades. Some refund all retirements. Some count them as W/L after a certain portion of the match has been completed.

Been there many times and it always sucks, had a big bet on Tsonga last Friday, dropped the 1st, won the 2nd and had a 4-1 lead in the 3rd set before his opponent retired, no bet!
