good books, read nearly all of them. of course none of them are the blueprint to a money machine, but fundamental ideas are there. The rest is up to you. How can you take what you learn and apply it to a new problem or angle? That is how you go from recreational to something more than that.Comment -
i personally enjoyed Seidel's books quite a bit, although to me they were a little less quantitative than I had hoped originally. Justin's book was good I thought. Mathletics is the same old tired crap from this forum honestly, skip that one. A couple others I hadn't read though. I'll check them out.Comment -

Mr East's small amazon kindle books are good. use sports database to find winning angles (from the past, of course).
i can't believe the denigration of books and reading in general...... it's a great way to learn. and frankly, you could learn something about betting reading old russian authors or dickens. you learn human nature from those books.
learning via doing and street smarts is good too.

This is the worst book on sports betting I've ever read. He admitted to losing money. And it's no wonder why, he modeled a team's annual performance (i.e. predicted total wins) and then just made an "adjustment" for things like who the starting pitcher was. LOL.Originally posted by NatedogComment -

I've read three worthwhile books on gambling, maybe four if you count The Book. Two of those books weren't even bound, and they were about sharp money management. The third one I had to order from the no-longer-printed Amazon stash. A very cool book about horse racing by some little known author.
Sports betting has changed tremendously over the last 20 years. If newbies knew the kind of computer programs they are up against these days, - not 'models' - programs -, most wouldn't bother and run for the exit.
Books are about ideas. The problem is that even if you had a hundred great ideas, you couldn't possibly remember them all. But a program remembers them instantly, all at the same time.Comment -
If you are just starting out and want to be serious about this, I would start out with "sharper" and "sharp sports betting"
"weighing the odds in sports betting" and "how the professionals beat the pro football point spread" are good
"The logic of sports betting" is probably the best sports betting book to date, and can give you a step by step guide on how to win in today's sports betting world
I would also strongly recommend decision type books by authors like Daniel Kahneman, Gary Klein, and Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
