Is it just me or so far after 2 NFL weeks there’s too many penalties called, some are phantom and it’s killing the flow of the games.
Way too many flags thrown.

#3Awful. Nfl said they wanted to emphasize holding penalties. What a great idea. There is holding on almost every play. And you call holding and there is a 80% chance the drive ends in a punt. They cant just leave it alone. Constant tinkering for no reason.
Do you think a left tackle has a chance standing in a 2 pt stance on a pass play with a 265 pd guy that runs a 4.5 across from him?? If you dont hook the rusher a little bit you have no chanceComment -

#5too many flags and also just pure ineptitude (think of the Carolina possible game winning drive and it took them forever to figure out where to spot the ball when Carolina had momentum - i didn't bet the game, not bias - it was just ridiculous)Comment -

#10It's been that way for awhile now. Referees want as much spotlight as the athletes themselves. They'll throw a flag for an offensive "pick" that happened 15 yards away from the play and eradicate a perfectly executed touchdown. They are directly affecting outcomes and it's unacceptable, but it's football so people continue watching.
Just look at the "roughing the passer" called on Bradley Chubb late in the Broncos/Bears game Sunday. It was an ordinary, clean, and most importantly, legal hit on the quarterback and yet it nets the Bears fifteen additional yards to set up Eddy Pineiro's 53 yard game-winning field goal... Now unless Eddy can knock through a 68 yarder, the refs are stealing W's from one team and giving them to the other.
Total trash product.

#11These jerkoffs print money so I guess they know more than me.
I’m crazy enough to think invoking a new rule every year that makes the product even worse will eventually bite them in the ass!! I guess not cause it been going on for a decade or so and they still printing money!
cause we love football no matter how shitty they make it!!!Comment -

#12It's the emphasis on passing
League can fix this by doing away w roughing, targeting, UR, PI, def holding, etc.
Make it a run dominate sport where passing is actually difficult and the game will flow, be quicker, be more exciting and there will be parity. Right now only 10 teams have anactual NFL QB, and if you don't you have to tank or else. League cannot survive when players now demand trades from bad teams because those teams cant ever compete against the top QB in their division.
Bring back 1970-1990 style NFL play and you'll have the greatest product on Earth.Comment -

The mid 80’s were heaven.
1985 Bears defense, the Fridge, Walter Payton.
My all time favorite team the 1986 Giants. Phil Simms and that mind boggling SB performance, LT, Bavaro, virtually a pro bowler at every position....
Those Montana/Craig 49er teams, Elway......
God I wish I was a kid again.Comment -

#14Too many flags because they have 40 cameras per game. 40 years ago they had 5 cameras covering the game and a lot of the holdings were missed.Comment -

#18Id be interested to see the actual numbers on this so far for profitability, but it seems to me:
NFL games take the under.
College games take the over.
Even if you just took every NFL under.
And every over for FBS Saturday games.
Profit?Comment -

Can you imagine the behind closed door meetings during the off season?

#29OK, this is beyond ridiculous now.
I’m a Giants fan, I watched every down of that game.
There were 20 penalties called. (17 accepted)
It was so out of hand the play by play announcer Thom Brennaman was sarcastically ridiculing the refs.
And it’s not just the Giants game, no matter what game I checked out during the day was interrupted by either a holding call or roughing the passer penalty.
What the NFL wanted they got, too bad what they got is an unwatchable product.Comment -
