These are all quite common in my area. Indeed I myself have even duked an electric company worker $40 for the use of his uniform for a day so I could make these connections in broad daylight without fear of molestation. The police drove by several times, I would wave each time and they would wave back. No need to climb the pole as it is pretty easy for someone who knows what they are doing to bypass the meter box... Doing it at the pole would be dumb as I'm sure you want to run at least a little power each month... the meter reader might get suspicious why a house with people living there continues to read zero each month... Paver you should try it, the only thing I ever did was when my roof caved in and could not afford to fix for 6 months, I ran extension cords to a house about 200 yards away so I could power up my second floor. A tree took out everything and I could not afford to reapair restore power and fix roof and i needed heat. It worked for like 3 months as the neighbors were in Florida.

not smart jj, be a real electrician and put a switch on your meter(obviously not on your meter nut a switch that controls your meter), figure out their routes or always leave it off after business hours, this is the way to go for sure...
