This might seem like a losing record, but because of the plus money payouts you are actually up +6.45 units. This is one of the only months (aside from April and October) where blindly betting underdogs is profitable.

The key is ensuring they also have line movement in their favor (which means likely sharp support). If you look at dogs with at least 1-cent of line movement in their favor in September they improve to 44.7% with +78.39 units won.



The key here is that public bettors leave the MLB market in favor of NFL and NCAAF. As a result, almost all line moves in September are caused by sharps. So tailing the sharp side becomes more popular than usual.

Also usually underdogs late in the season are eliminated and are more likely to tool with their roster, play minor leaguers to see exactly what they have, you know, are they major league ready etc. etc.

Another thing is teams that are eliminated some players have their heads on winter vacations not on the games at hand.

I've mentioned this before I used to work for an 'local office' the two main men that ran the office would often take down games like Marlins vs. Orioles, or Blue Jays v. Tigers etc. and would offer just meaningful games in MLB action.
Any action that may have been lost by doing this was negated and then some by college football and NFL football.

For the most part, yes.
There's a few exceptions.
For instance today's Nats/Mets game is bettable.
But yeah, look at today's MLB slate, eight games have money lines of +200 or better.
