Obama. Did not vote for him but I'm coming around

I was in Amsterdam when he held a short news conference. People scurried and crowded around the TV to get a glimpse of the new American President. For the first time in a while I was proud of my President.

I dont agree with many of his policies. But I am one conservative that can honestly say I'm glad he is the President of the USA.

What? An open-minded conservative hoping things go well for the country? It can't be.

I liked Clinton also. I think Obama is a good guy. I am for free enterprise not socialism and that is the big difference. Obama looks like he will be a disaster in the making and will be regarded as such for decades to come, long after we're gone.

I have nothing against being proud of your president. free country.

I don't get how you can be a conservative, don't agree with his policies and still glad he is president?

It's like being married to a woman that you know is banging a different guy every night, you don't agree with it, but you are still glad she is your wife and your also proud of her.

This post is a perfect example of how the feelings can easily get in a way of thinking and that is the reason why propaganda is so much effective.

The Europeans were expressing the same type of interest to Putin when he came to power. It takes time for the hysteria to calm down and the reality to kick in.

Uhhh that example may just be a little harsh.

I dont agree with higher taxes and bigger govmt.

I just think the President should have full command of the issues and have a near 6th sense of good judgement. He is extremely highly respected in the world and that makes the world a little bit safer. It is possible that anti-American sentiment could decrease under this man. And stronger relations may well lead to better trade and security deals with the world at large.

Bottomline is I still dont like higher taxes but I'm willing to take a dose of the bad. He is no Ronald Reagan who was the greatest but I get the same feeling that America is making a comeback just like when Reagan took over.

if you believe in individualism and capitalism, then there is nothing to be proud of in obama.

the idolization of the man is distressing and rather nauseating.

OK Maybe the example was a little harsh.

but when you say "He is extremely highly respected in the world and that makes the world a little bit safer" it makes me scratch my head.
That statement is completely false. 100%. after 100 days you truly believe he is "extremely highly respected?" That is 100% left wing media hype. You earn respect! he hasn't been if office long enough yet to have earned the respect of the world and he hasn't made it a little bit safer.

In fact, I can argue the complete opposite is true.

He is an idiot who can't make a five minute speech without a teleprompter. He is corrupt and has surrounded himself with corrupt people.

I'm sorry, but anybody who would call themselves conservative and say they are proud of Obama is, to put it bluntly, a fukkin retard.

How could a conservative be for nationalizing private industry, Mussolini style. I certainly hope this corrupt f\*g President meets the same fate as Mussolini.

He would love to have a socialist economy, I think people like him but no one knows why they like him. I do not think most Americans have any clue of what he is all about. He is a celebrity type President. I am sure by the end of his term he will bury this Country.

Lost, Dwight, Obama and the rest of my fellow conservatives; Let's give him a chance. This is not Johnson or even Jimmy Carter. The problems at home call for some intelligent and creative thinking and not simply down party lines. The problems abroad scream for a clean, fresh approach and this guy has one.

Right now he is dealing with problems in the banking and auto industry in a smart way imo. He is working hard and looks to be working smart. He is smarter than I thought and looks to be doing a great job so lets give the devil his due.

He connects with normal citizens like me.He takes actions which we in our discussion used to say are sensible and why do politicians with all the army of intelligent people cannot seee.

He is breaking down the social barriers like Lincoln did, he is bringing good will from across the globe.. Yes, he shouldnt have bent whicl greeting the king,,Big deal.. Lets not make a fuss about something which is a minor gaffe.

He is delivering what he promised to the public during his election campaign. Republicans are shocked by this saying he is taking too many things in one go, why not ? We have th ebest technology, best brains and determination to succeed.. Why can he not tackle everything in one go.. So for the simple reason I think he has not backed off what he promised in the elections and following it up gives me trust and there have been fewer presidents who have set out to do so much 8-9 major issues all at the same time...

Yes its only first 100 days but if he can replicate even half of what he has done in first 100 days during his first term , I am sure America will project a better image across the world and will be a better nation.

Same could be said about GW. Bush left Obama a shit-load of problems, 2 wars (one of which was unnecessary) and a crumbling economy. Eight years of Bush put us in a hole we may never get out of--but at least you can blame the black guy that comes along later and is trying to clean up the mess.

    Good post. Agree.

I just like the way he is not following party lines and just jumping in and tackling problems. America is standing tall again in the world. Now we need him to realize you can not tax business at 40% when the rest of the free world has a tax rate closer to 30%.

Don't forget that he has spent more $ in the first 100 days that any other president combined! I call that reckless and selling out the future.

I say that he hasn't shown anything yet to qualify him as a great president other than throwing good $ after bad. Shit, I can do that.

Nothing can be achieved out of posting here, its a loser's style, so I am not even going to comment anymore. He is the President of united states and you are not even getting credit on a gambling forum

Dwight , agree with you not liking the $$$'s spent, however economic downturn of this magnitude didnt happen before either. We can only assess whether this was the right move or not when it fails/succeeds. At this moment in time we are not aware of the whole scenario, we think we know but there are various factors to be taken into consideration. Can we let all the banks collapse, how much to pump in etc etc.. if the government doesnt do anything,,, then government is inept. This a no win situation.

Besides a significant chunk of the $$'s will be spent on infrastructure , generating employment. Lets not forget this bailout was started by the republicans and ratified by the congress. So it is not only him taking a solo decision..

Not only is Obama continuing to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, but in Pakistan, too. So why are you complaining about wars? The Democrats in Congress wanted the wars we have now too.

The economy did not start to tank until the Democrats controlled Congress. Bush warned Congress many times that dire action was needed and Barney f\*g and company said it was no big deal.

Obama has given billions of taxpayer dollars to GM and Chrysler and they still went bankrupt. And the problems with these companies were the unrealistic demands of the labor unions. His answer? Turn the companies over to the Unions. How is that supposed to fix anything?

He is trying to nationalize industry which will be a long term disaster. Are we supposed to believe government is more efficient than private industry? Name a successful government company. The Post Office? Please.

The fact is you have to be a dumbass or communist to support Obama. If he succeds in what he wants to do, America is destroyed. He is not trying to clean up a mess. He is trying to transform the USA into a fascist-socialist Nation. You have to be blind not to see that.

OK Raul, agree that we disagree on the spending thing. It seems to be a double standard when it comes to criticizing presidents however. When conservatives do it, we get called racists and that we want to see him fail but we've have to put up with idiots calling George W all sorts of names because it seems like the "IN" thing to do and the propaganda created by the media against him is laughable. God forbid that we have an opinion on Obama's presidency that is contrary to the left.
