Ex-Mets star Lenny Dykstra busted for putting weapon to Uber driver's head.

Perpetually-troubled ex-Mets star Lenny Dykstra was busted before dawn Wednesday after putting a weapon to the head of an Uber driver and threatening to kill him, police said.

Dykstra, 55, was arrested outside police headquarters in Linden, N.J., where the terrified driver jumped out of the car and ran for his life around 3:30 a.m., police said.

The former Mets outfielder known as "Nails" was charged with making terroristic threats and possession of cocaine, marijuana and MDMA — or ecstasy.

Dykstra allegedly put the weapon to the driver's head when the man refused his order to change the destination of their trip, cops said.

A mug shot released by the cops showed a disheveled Dykstra, sporting stubble on his chin and a glazed look in his eyes. He was turned loose on a summons pending a June court date.

Dykstra told the Daily News that the Uber driver actually took him hostage during the early morning ride.

"The guy went nuclear on me," said Dykstra. "He f---ing kidnapped me and almost killed me going 100 mph. He locked me in his f---ing car, and he wouldn't let me out."

Dykstra, despite a police news release detailing the crimes against him, insisted he was not arrested.

"No dude," he told The News. "It's another day in the life of Lenny Dykstra."

The bust was just the latest legal woe for the once-beloved Dykstra, the hard-nosed centerfielder on the Mets' 1986 World Championship Team.

In the decades since, Dykstra's reputation was left in tatters as he found himself on the wrong side of the law time and time again.

He went to jail in 2011, charged with stealing three cars and drug possession. He declared bankruptcy in 2009, when nearly two dozen creditors came after Dykstra — who admitted to debts of up to $50 million.

He was forced at one point to put his 1986 World Series ring on the auction block.

Dykstra's major league career was marred by allegations of steroid use, and he's struggled with both drug and alcohol problems.

Cops said no weapon was recovered when Dykstra was arrested in front of the police station, where the Uber driver pulled up while repeatedly honking the car horn.

The driver said he had picked up Dykstra just moments earlier, and the ex-ballplayer snapped when the driver refused to follow his direction to change their destination, cops said.

Not saying he's innocent but how can the driver say he held a gun to his head yet no weapon was found?

...so the driver was lying about the gun?

I’m surprised Dykstra is still alive. I thought he’d be dead at least 10 years ago.

Wait didn’t it say he didn’t have weapon on him when they pulled up to police station? Did he throw it out of the car or did he not have one at all.

At worst find a good financial planner and map out a plan for retirement later on..

Do you really need a financial planner to explain to you how to hold on to your money?

Yes, when all you did is play sports your entire life and for a living you only know how to spend and give rather then save and invest... These pro players get squeezed by loved ones too.. Immediate family and close friends that are struggling need help, what are you gonna do? Oh and if you have kids and a divorce forget about it..

Ballers can lose bank roll in a hurry.. Big house and fancy cars cost money, life style change isn't always easy either going from house to apartment..... When those MLB pay checks stop coming in the money only goes out.. Maybe you get a pension but that's peanuts.. You have bills but no checks coming in sucks.. Won't get a job... Too much pride..

I feel for these PRO ATHLETES when their careers end.. It's a shock to the system for sure..

That's the big expense.. Kids and X wives/girl friends cost alot of money out of your pay check each and every month.. Pro athletes are targets for groupies..The chicks are hot too..

Ask Dwight Howard in the NBA about that.. Why do you think Dwight played for so long now while getting bounced and hated on from club to club? I'll tell you why, Dwight needs money and doesn't like playing the game any more, didn't for a while..... He'll play for as long as he can get signed on for sure.. Gotta milk it I guess..
