The (2) 24 hour shifts are KEY.....I have no problem working (40) hours....I just hate coming in 5 days to do so.....I have family that work at hospitals (nurses's ect)...they all work 3 12's (1) being overnight pay then they do pretty damn good for themselves...

#38Srs questions Fidel, why not nursing? Money is much better, more of a career ladder, can bounce between OR’s, ICU’s, ER’s, trauma/medical, etc... from an adrenaline stand point, I’d say the bigger adrenaline rushes came as a paramedic but they weren’t too often and I even worked in one of the busiest EMS systems in the US. As a nurse there’s plenty of adrenaline rushes and much more frequently. And I make over $50/hr base salary now
And whoever said fire dept doesn’t make much money is 100% wrong

#43If you watch the first 48 you 'll see a few of my clients and a lot of my buddies. With getting paid to go to court. Or working the details they never pay taxes on they make mass loot. it isn't hard if you have half a brain to get promoted. These guys all live in 300,000 houses with their wives just being house wives. Plus they get a shit load of side puss.Comment -

#45I was a paramedic for about 5 years
Pros- can Be fun at times, become good at patient assessments in a short time, good with skills such as IV’s/airway management, etc... great spot to start a career in the medical field
Cons- Pay, poor education, you’ll become way too familiar with the homeless population and with nursing home residents, not a great job to make a career out of, not much of a career ladder, you’ll see shit you’ll never unsee and no one else will ever understand it
If you want to use it to get on a FD, go for it. Pay would be decent with OT, you’d have a pension, union job, sit around all day and get fat while getting paid so basically it’s the American dream.
In hindsight, I’m glad I went the paramedic route and I’m glad I moved on from it.Comment -
