Of course ratings went down after a show that ran for decades ended. But instead of wfan trying to build something knew they are going back in time for some short term publicity.

Fact is, love him or hate him - Francesca pretty much invented the game. Impossible to replace with people (a team of 3 no less, some dude no one ever heard of, a chick, and an egotistical ex-NFLer ... I've tried, it's impossible to listen to) that are essentially using Francesca's mix of topical dialogue and taking calls.

I'll put it this way: I used to LOVE making my way to the radio on afternoons the day after (and sometimes preceding) major sports stories or big days ... doesn't even occur to me to find the dial now. Gave it two or three listens, months apart, and I felt like an idiot for even listening to it.

I'd guess the "diverse" personalities was more appealing to the station than the fact that it's three people. I'm sure they all try to talk over one another.

Shea...I do a good bit of driving, so I mix my listening btw music + sports-talk. I have to say that some of the sports-talk is not just BAD. It's awful - unlistenable.

The sports-media has exploded to 10x what it needs to be. The endless blabber is just bad radio. In that respect, Mike + the Mad Dog original work stands apart as great radio compared to today's garbage.
