Prevents the league from going dark in certain regions for long periods of time I guess. It sucks though - only Winnipeg or Nashville will advance past the second round.

Divisional playoffs, 1st v WC, 2nd v 3rd, then winners into conference playoffs etc

has never been 1-8 by rule. NHL still has divisions which rate ahead of conferences.

New format has been in place for a few years now. I hate it. Makes the 1st round more exciting but weaker matchups after that. Can also lead to a 3rd place division finisher getting in with less points than a team from the other division having 2 wild cards already. Gay as fk.

Horrible format.

The Leafs finish 3rd in the Conference, and have to play #2 Boston. If they finish 6th in the conference, they would have played a lesser team and gotten home ice advantage. Egg all over the NHL's face.

So you, in your infinite wisdom, have decided that only two teams have the possibility of advancing past the 2nd round, even though there will be 4 teams playing in the 3rd (Conference Championship) round. Another mental midget puts his two cents in.
