yes oil dropped below 30 but the average price for 2016 was still around $44 which made it at least somewhat profitable to pull it out of the ground. if oil stays below 30 for any great length of time, the whole world is bankrupt

well yes, apples and oranges, but when things start trading way below what it costs to make/extract them...

this does create opportunities though, stuff like pei-c at $9, even if jcp and every other mall retailer quits paying rent, that preferred probably still gets paid off at $25

it's pretty easy to tell what a "good stock" is after the fact.

in the 1960s you would've bought bowling and railroad stocks

what about gm? enron? bear stearns? those were good stocks at one time

and warren buffett would have virtually the same amount of wealth if he dumped his inheritance in a money market fund and let it sit there
