#2851How does that fight coronavirus? That's going to make people travel, go to restaurants and stores, etc? No. If people stay home it's not because they don't have the money to do stuff, it's that they think they're gonna die.Originally posted by grease lightninTrump was pitching 0% payroll tax for the remainder of the year into the close.
Of course the answer is it doesn't, but it's great sales fodder in an election year. I gave you free money!!!!
Now if they want to explore paid sick leave and sick care and stuff like that, I get it. But just to "give" everyone free money is just a ploy.Comment -

Well...it is fiscal stimulus.

#2862Fiscal stimulus works when people want to go out and spend but don't have money. Here, people generally have money but will not spend because they are literally afraid to go out.Originally posted by grease lightninWell...it is fiscal stimulus.

Enabling people to take measures that will hell curb the outbreak makes sense. Meaning paid leave for those who cant work. A payroll tax holiday when those in need will miss payroll is stupid.
Addressing the problem makes sense. The approach we've heard so far is akin to tossing dollar Bill's in the air and hoping it will help, and it wont. Be smart.Comment -

Something tells me a fiscal stimulus package of any kind would be fine if it were proposed by a democrat.
I think it would be a good start. A lot of the people affected economically are workers at customer-facing businesses that will not get all the benefit of pent-up demand that comes along with most economic slow downs. IE— if you miss your vacation this year, you’re not going to necessarily double-up on vacations next year.
These types of people spend most of their money and they still will even if they are sitting at home. A payroll tax cut is like a direct injection of money into the economy.
I think it’s safe to say if people start losing their jobs, or if people need medical leave, etc, there will be additional fiscal stimulus.
You are just poo-pooing anything Trump comes up with just like all the Democrats in Congress. .Comment -

dude...I thought you were smarter than this. Explain to me how a person who gets laid off or can't work will benefit from the new tax break on their hourly pay? The people that will be hurting are said people. Not the ones going to work!Comment -

There aren’t waves of layoffs at this point, Chico. I said it’s a good start and if things get worse to expect more and more targeted fiscal stimulus.
Please carefully read my post before suggesting that I am not as “smart” as you thought.
