#702Markets running a bit.
Chico not sure if you still have HIMX but obviously there were some broad semiconductor issues. Let's see how they play out but I think we end up on the good end of the stick, at one point.
Heading out for more vacation will contribute more when I'm back.
Roy, post your election straddle here for others to ponder.

#703TSLA $309. Good buy. I just got one. gawd dam phenomenal! Overwhelming. Me and the wife fighting over that dam thing!
Well after selling down to flat we are back up. Now we have to survive the PM sell off that has come every day lately.
I have an opinion, different than you are hearing, on this trade situation I'll post this weekend.Comment -

#705Shrugged off tomorrows tariffs to close on the highs.
I'm calling today important. That was a VERY familiar sell off in the AM. Looked like we could easily be down a couple of honeys. The re rally broke the PM sell off trend.Comment -

It's just too uncomfortable to be under weight stocks. You may hate the trade wars but you can't sit on the sidelines while record profits pour in.Comment -

#713The market is concerned about the looming trade war.
The next couple of weeks will be a little dangerous in that we will likely see the 20% tariffs hit Euro auto makers and we could see some downward revisions during the release of 2nd qtr earnings coming out towards the end of this week.
I believe this will be the last round of tariffs until after the midterms. Trump will make every effort from now until election day to get a trade deal or two.
Trading-wise, there is a couple of ways to play it. First, as I've been saying for the past week, can't be under weight stocks here even with the dark clouds on the horizon. A trade for earning season would be an option straddle on those most likely to issue profit warnings like BA, CAT, GM, ect.
After the 2nd qtr is out of the way, say early August, I would be looking for opportunities to go over weight stocks. We will hear of trade negotiations from August until election day. The market will assume something is getting done. I see a bullish run from the August Nov time frame.
If we get to the election without any trade deals that would be a great selling spot. I could see Trump going over the top with massive tariffs that even the proposals will shock the markets.
At the end of the day, the US will come out with modestly better trade deals.
One last note, tariffs can be addicting. Trump mentioned the US could make as much as $200 billion a year with the current tariffs. Trump may find he likes and needs the tax revenue better than he likes a modest improvement on trade(assuming "modest" is as good as he can get). In fact, it's not far fetched to estimate that the entire annual budget deficit could be erased by tariffs. That would require huge tariffs. Not at all out of the question.Comment -

That's a fantastic read. Thank you as always for sharing your thoughts. There are many variables and of course we never know just how the market will react as a whole. That said, your reasoning and prognostication on this is about the most viable I have read. Ultimately trump does not like to back down as he equates it to losing in his mind, but he'll clearly take some short term pain for the long term gain.Comment -

China in my mind is foolish to not get a deal. Our products sold there are ALL luxury items bought by the 1%'ers. Strawberries, bourbon, Caddys, ect. Strawberries going from $2.64/lb to $2.94 ain't going to slow them down. The rich who buy imported American products won't even notice.
If Trump tariffs $300 billion like he says the Chinese will run out of things they can hit with matching tariffs. Over half of China's GDP is tied to US exports but for the US only a couple of percent of our GDP is tied to exports to them. I think the talk dies down and back channel negotiating takes place. Yes China will be tough, they do not have to answer to voters but they are shaking in their boots right now. They really would lose a trade war with the US.Comment -

#728I'm looking for a good site that will show all the stocks that are dropping the most from the start of the session. A site that already has them listed so I don't have to add them to a watchlist. for instance, if I did not have AVGO on my yahoo finance watchlist, I would not have known that it was sinking like a rock in after hours last night and then again at the start of the session.
When I google I am coming up with all kinds of random shittt. can anyone help out here?!?!!

The tools are pretty extensive.
We can screen stocks that are breaking out of averages with a certain amount of volume, etc.
List some parameters and maybe I can get a list out in the thread daily.
It might be good for the thread as a whole.
Big movers and big volume movers from the open are no problem. We can do it for sectors as well and stocks in those sectors.Comment -

I'm up well on posted plays and have generated income with calls. Daily trades I haven't pulled the trigger on have also done well. I have a couple of down stocks, but it's not terrible.
We have tools and resources that give us a clear picture.
We can profit in any market Gold, it sometimes just takes patience. We can also limit our losses when it doesn't work out.
It's hard to trade sports and stocks meaningfully on a regular basis though, it's a bit crazy actually and I would probably have more plays posted if I focused on one of them.Comment -

if this is something you can do and it does not inconvenience you or trouble you much that would be an amazing help here in this thread.
I just bought some CSCO as i see it is down approx 5% on nothing that i believe is really so newsworthy but maybe I am missing something.Comment -

It's, once again, the Amazon effect.
CSCO is huge, but Amazon can exert it's will.
Thought about selling everything and just buying Amazon, they are in almost every business now, except energy and that is just a matter of time.
In a recession, I think Amazon will do fine as folks will look for cheaper prices. Amazon may even gain customers during that time.
So yeah, from pharmacies, to wholesale prescription drug providers to book stores to network equipment, you name it, Amazon is rolling.
(Not really putting everything into Amazon, but you get the idea).Comment -
