we know markets don't move in a straight line. many thought this week we would trend downward and that still might happen but there are literally no big earnings reports this week and friday the market is closed.

as i play large index funds and ETF's, i am waiting this out.

              patience, Friends! patience!!

                good stuff chico

                keep grinding!

if you're into options there are a lot of puts i've been selling on stuff like penn/play/wynn... in the scenario that these places go bankrupt then it really doesn't matter what we have our money in, we're doomed

Mini 5-day chart W formation. W within a W back to 2200? Or, if it goes the other we may jump over 2,750.

good question. but what good news caused this? a thurs/fri sell off from last week?

the earnings report has literally nothing this week and we are closed friday.

the market not reacting any more negatively at this point to the Cases and body count increasing daily.

The thing I want to know is if something artificial is propping the market up. Could the Fed be buying stocks? Easy money is certainly flooding everywhere, which is certainly good for equities combined with all the Fed liquidity.

D2 there is so much noise out there and both sides (strong Bulls and Doomsdayers) all so loud that it is tough to dial it out.

the good news is that daily cases/deaths seem to be on the decline in nyc and europe

also the thought that italy might start up series a in a month, and that teams/players/etc aren't just going to sit back and let leagues cancel everything without a fight.

i'm waiting for amc or someone else major to just say FU these laws are just suggestions, unenforceable, and we're gonna open back up and stay open

Ppl are changing their opinions like the wind. I'm waiting for the financials to come out later this month. If it keeps running then maybe I wait for another pullback. Might take months but I am patient

Seriously. Yeah, that isn't going to happen. Companies can't afford to piss into the wind and anger the universe.

It's going to be a massive battle toward the end of April with one camp wanting to open up and the other saying wait til June.

if you're amc/penn national/dave & buster's/six flags/etc does it really matter? if you don't open for 3 months you're totally bankrupt so there's nothing to lose

Wow. What a rally into the close. This is why it's tough to get in and out of the market. If you sold late last week expecting further fall, you missed a massive rally today.

Good volume today plus getting over the 38.2% fibonacci level is a good sign.

The S&P 500 closed 12/31/18 at 2507. Market is up over 6% since the beginning of 2019.

I guess the theory is if this thing does have a near back to normalcy June 1 and the programs help firms survive the 2 months, given all the cash flooding the market and negative interest rates, it's pretty prime for equities. Snap back could happen. But it's predicated on really getting back near normal by June. I just think the risk will still remain for this thing to re-emerge at any time necessitating further shut downs or risking a reigniting of the problem. It's a race against time for vaccine, antivirals and antibody tests.

Do you think we will see nonstop fiscal and monetary stimulus until things get back to normalish?

i know you asked D2 and not me but i don't think so. The GOP is already pushing back on phase 4 of a stimulus, saying they want to wait. Dems pushing it too quickly and GOP wants to wait, but how long can we wait?

McConnell said to wait a few weeks until we see how phase 3 went. The GOP will ultimately go along with what Trump wants, and he will do anything to get reelected.

Don't even need a Phase 4. The PPP is stimulus on steroids for every "small" (up to 500 employees) biz in America. They "only" allocated 350 billion so far, but I'll betcha they will get total applications that go WAY over that and then how are they going to say "no, too late" after a week or two? The PPP is massive free money to every 1-500 employee business owner, up to $10 million for a company. Damn near every ongoing business that doesn't shutter qualifies and any business that doesn't take advantage of it is nuts. The government is paying two months' worth of employee salaries, rent and utilities (tax-free) simply to "keep the lights on", even for businesses that are still operating and would have kept the lights on anyway. If businesses can then get back to normal June/July, many will be flush with extra cash.
