Seems like having ball in your pocket would slow you down or be distracting. I know I would be bothered by it.

Do you watch tennis? First fed doesn't break people, now pros don't? Lol. To answer the original question, I've never understood the logic given for this, but no it doesn't bother them as most of them been doing it since children

The shorts are built with pockets to place them in and not move etc they wear special shorts for this that helps

Cilic literally took his second ball out of his pocket as I wrote this after that point. They have a second pretty much every time in case of a fault etc. when they don't it's because they've faulted and used second ball

Extra pocket built into the spandex and shorts. Extra ball in them every time serving.

98% of players hold the extra ball. Easier to keep the rhythm and prevent turning around waiting on a ballboy.
The ball in pocket doesn't affect you one bit.
When I play matches I actually like to keep 2 extras in my pocket in case of a first serve let. Odds are when you hit a let it was a pretty good ball that just nips the net so you want to keep that same flow and duplicate that swing.
