    Need Help From College Degenerates That Know Physics
    My son is taking an online class for physics(which he deeply regrets doing). He has this problem that he has been working on for 2 hours. The answer is 72 m/s2, but he has no idea how you come up with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I know nothing about this garbage. Sorry that the picture is sideways.

    the 144

    answer is in the clue
    "you forgot to square the velocity"
    12 ^ = 144

      This is KLC's son. I've tried a variety of ways to find the acceleration with the velocity squared but cant even find a formula that would assist me in doing so or even when trying to reverse the problem by trying to going from the answer to the given information. So far no luck at all.

        Try the formula

        a=v2/r

        V2 being velocity squared

        R being radius

        Should give u ur answer

            Shady and Snowball got it

            We're talking acceleration and circular motion, or more specifically centripetal acceleration

            Ac= V2/r

            V = 12 m/s
            R = 2.0 m
            The mass of the ball means shit in this problem. Look at what they're asking you for

            Square 12 m/s and get 144m/s^2

            Now take 144m/s^2 and put it over R, or 2.0

            144/2 = 72 m/s ^2

              KLC, don't let your boy read this but physics problems don't get much easier than that one

              Read the question, know what they're looking for and know the equations

              Physics 1 is easy, rote memorization bullshit

              Wait until he gets into Particles and Symmetries or Experimental Physics

                    I'd be willing to bet if you took 50 students and put them in online Physics 1, and another 50 and had them plant their ass in a desk seat a few times a week for a Physics 1 lecture, the online students would outperform the brick and mortar students.

                    For classes heavy in rote memorization, studying at home is better, most kids in class never ask questions anyways, no need to even go.

                      Yep. Online is a whole different animal from brick and mortar. You actually have to do work, read, and learn shit. I remember minimal from the classes I took on campus. The online classes were so much more work that I actually learned a little bit. Granted, I went to school at least 7 different times in whatever form, and have like 12 credits. But hey, I gave it the ole college try.

                        Damn I hated physics this thread reminds me why! Funny slightly off topic subject but I remember telling my math teacher (high school) when am I ever going to need trigonometry and now it's the basis of what I do for a living, go figure.

                        Hope your kid does well KVB.

                          Thanks to all of you for the help. Once he got that one problem out of the way, he finished the assignment pretty quickly. He had just hit a wall, and couldn't find any help from his resources provided from the school. I knew some of you guys knew this stuff, and was just hoping were lingering around on the site. Thanks again!

                            I told my Chemistry teacher that I would just be a garbage man, or mailman and couldn't even pull that off. Would love to be either. She got me there. Though, she wanted my nuts and unfortunately didn't get those.

                            Best of luck to your son, KLC.

                              As kraken mentioned above physics 1 and even to a certain extent physics 2 is mostly just plug and chug

                              Hope he doesn't have to take more advanced courses on rotational and vibrational movement.

                              Unless one is doing research for a living, it's all towards a degree and useless given the computer programs today

                                    I really liked Physics in high school and it came down to a really cool teacher that made it fun. We would do a lot of experiments outside. One of which was trying to hit the teacher with a water balloon being shot from a 3 man water balloon launcher. He was a far distance away chilling in a chair on the football field and we were up in the stands. We had to estimate based on wind and many other factors that I have forgotten by now. My group was the only one that nailed him and we got extra credit!

                                      That's awesome. School was fun when teachers were cool like that. I enjoyed trying to make a truss that could hold something hanging without breaking. I forget, but it was actually interesting trying to figure it out. No one could do it, but the process was entertaining at least. Damn near 20 years ago, and still remember it.

                                        yep, really good teachers can make even the most boring subjects interesting. My high school chemistry teacher was very similar. Most people hate physics and chemistry but they were 2 of my favorite subjects in high school due to the teachers that I had.
