I'm guessing that Hamilton actually didn't decline to sign him. CFL has taken players w/ checkered pasts, think of Rickie Williams after his weed-use.

Hamilton's top2 QBs right now are Collaros (Cincinnati) + Masoli (Oregon/OleMiss). After a little practice, Johnny would blow by these guys + become a very good CFL qb.

In my eyes, it's very likely Johnny didn't want to play for the paltry wage. The CFL wages (except for established veteran QBs) = very small. Not much more than your average American postal worker. Johnny should have viewed this as chance to re-establish himself + work back toward NFL.

hamilton is a penetrating wreck right now. they are 0-8 right now and have started making personel changes. remember will hill of the ravens and giants? they had him but cut him a few weeks ago as he was bad in the locker room. i believe they wanted to bring in manziel but they tried to hire someone recently and it was shot down by the league, and the ticats backed away. art briles. i think they wanted to bring in both but since the briles situation completely backfired, they dont want the manziel headache either. my two cents

cfl players - at least important ones - make pretty good money these days. $125k to $250k seems like a common figure i see for all top players except elite starting QB's....... i think backup QB's are pretty well paid too.... i would think only very young canadian special teams players would be making what a 30 year old US postal worker makes. CFL wages have gone way up and are a bit more evenly distributed these days.

the bringing in BOTH briles and manziel at the same time makes logical sense.. and then the first leg died in a controversial way so they abandoned the 2nd leg.

good arguments for hamilton to sign him and NOT to sign him.......... ultimately assuming he's sober and in good shape i think they should have signed him. i don't see what the downside is. there is no reason for anyone right now to buy a ticket for an 0-8 team and i think it'll just get worse marketing-wise.

i think the other 7 CFL teams are all in reasonable good shape right now - i don't mean ultra short-term but more in general - so not sure anyone else would think of signing him. but i think they ALL should look at him for next year's training camp...
