Do you support the Electoral vote or the Popular vote?
4th time in US history president elect lost the popular vote.
For only the fourth time in U.S. history, the presidential campaign has ended with an electoral college winner who won fewer votes than his opponent.

Hillary Clinton has the most votes at 60,467,601 votes.
Donald Trump has the least votes at 60,072,551 votes.
Votes are currently still being counted.

If the presidential voting system relied on the Popular voting system instead of the Electoral voting system. Al Gore and Hillary Clinton would have won their elections.

    Discuss.

    He would've won either way.

People would've come out in droves if it was a popular vote. And, you best believe, we would be busting the illegals and all that voting fraud.

Trump is the president. Nothing more to say. He'll likely go down as one of the greats, I'm sure they're already discussing a place for him on Mount Rushmore.

i agree with the one poster that votes might have been different if it was decided on popular vote.

he said that more people would vote (i agree) but some of those in non-swing states (at least 35 states) might vote differently because now their vote might affect the result. right now they just make a statement vote...

hard to say which way it would swing. but by looks of election result probably trump.

what surprised me is i thought trump did have more support than thought but that people would go for "the devil they know" at last second... but they didn't. if anything it went the other way.

              Popular vote is pure shiate
LA, NY , Miami, Chicago , Philly would settle every election.
The electoral is more of an overall since it doesn't allow 5 cities to rule an entire country. It shows as a whole this is the best candidate taking into effect all walks of life.
That's why the electoral is setup like it is for electing a President.
It's already hard enough with California with 55 and New York with 29 to overcome, that's 25% needed for an electoral before it even begins with only 2 states .
That shows you just how bad Clinton was though of .

I agree on what The Giant said.... I believe if everyone's vote Truly mattered... Trump would of edged her in the Popular vote.

The electoral vote has to be the one supported, because that is the rule. That's how the parties campaigned, to win states and electoral votes. That HAS to be what is observed.

Basically the answer most people would mask behind some sort of rationalization.

The fact that this is even a question in our Country, is mind boggling. Not saying anything bad towards you for asking it, as it has been a discussion. But, it's obvious why the Electoral College is needed.

Everyone already said why the EC matters here....but I would actually break down the states even more kinda like how Maine does it

Maybe do it the way they do the primaries so certain cities don't dominate the whole state
