It is not about ratings - that's 20th century shit.
Now it is about demographics - RICH, Disposable income - that is the golf viewer and the viewer that advertisers can't get anywhere else. That is why the Olympics dumped wrestling and put in golf - they wanted the demographic that Olympic golf would draw. I was very glad to see so many great golfers and viewrs said "screw you Olympics, you bunch of hypocrites"
Golf is doing great financially, in spite of Tiger, not because of him. It is the game, not the personalities.

they are only looked at better historically because the amount of competitive players were so small (because there wasn't much money in it) that everyone had a better chance of winning

the people in tiger's era are looked at worse because he was winning everything

nicklaus won the masters with EVEN PAR, -2, -2

woods' worst masters win was -12 on A MUCH TOUGHER COURSE

so some of you are saying that a guy that was consistently 10 shots better in tournaments, on tougher courses, wasn't as good

that sort of inferior equipment in his era made the course player longer (duh?) and hence, harder
even today's mediocre players drive the ball anywhere from 25 to 75 yards longer that the players in Jack's day

Advancement of equipment, balls, nutrition and training are the biggest factors when comparing the Jack era versus the Tiger era. Scores to par are extremely difficult to compare when Jack/Arnie/Watson etc. were hitting 3-4 irons and
Tiger was hitting knock down 9`s on the same holes.

Anyone who thinks the top players from Jack`s time were not immeasurably mentally tougher than todays players has no idea what they had to go through.

Todays golfer are for the most part total frontrunners.

How many times did Tiger win a major when he was behind going into Sunday?
No question he was the greatest closer of all-time, but that also says tons about his competition.
In his prime, basically everyone folded against him when he got a lead.
A few exceptions were Sutton @ the Players? and that little dude Y.E.Yang.

Haha. I was typing when you were posting. Bruce, I bet you aren`t a kid.

Eras are always tough to compare, but all things being even, how could you bet against Hogan or Jack playing against
Tiger. It is all fun and games until someone gets smacked in the face.

Am I the only one who remembers on numerous occasions Tiger having a slight "pause" after hitting a horrendous shot,
THEN grabbing his back or wrist?

They changed their minds on wrestling because they didn't want to be exposed as the greedy marketers that they are now, as opposed to the absurd protectors of amateur sports how they portrayed themselves 50 years ago.

I should have been specific = golf is doing great as an advertising medium. For a lot of simple reasons that have to do with corporate money and disposable income.

This is the exact reason why golf is fading as a recreational sport, but doing fine as an advertising vehicle =

Think this is a good bet.
Think Tiger is going to be a dumpster fire.

There should be odds of if he pulls a WD. You KNOW if he goes double, bogey, bogey he will be grabbing his back and hitting the showers.

Eldrick Tont Woods entered this tournament 3 days ago, realized he isn't he winner, and withdrew.

Eldrick plays to win and isn't afraid to bow out if it's not his tournament.

Since announcing he'd be in the tournament on Friday some 28,000 tickets were sold to the tournament.

Woods was going to play the Pro Am with Steph Curry and was paired with Lefty for the tourney.

Big disappointment once again for golf fans.
