Great adventure is for little kids and families. Stay in NYC there's much more to do/see there. Peter luger steakhouse usually requires months in advance to book unless you know a local politician and/or want to grease palms. There are many other great places to get some cow or whatever you want. Brooklyn has great pizza and if you want to see the Russian mafia just go over to brighton beach for a laugh. They hop out of their cars with the matching track jacket and pants saying "why u no pay me my money" with the car stereo blasting club music.

If you really must venture into nj, Pier village in long branch is a nicer beach scene with lots of women at thus time of the year on Thursday nights and the weekends. Otherwise the sopranos sites in bloomfield, linden and Rahway are po-dunkish areas with decent food if you know the area. Most of nj is boring suburbia and requires lots of driving.

Go to "Little Italy" and get something to eat. Take a tour boat around Manhattan. Supposedly there's some nice places to have lunch over on the west side now around the "High Line" west of the Meat Packing district.

The Brooklyn Bridge park is pretty new and a good visit. Piers that are now dedicated to massive basketball volleyball and soccer fields as well as BBQ pits etc. It over looks the water right under, through and around the Brooklyn Bridge. If you're into hoops the college players are usually home from school and provide good competition on the courts. Excellent scenery no matter what activity or non activity u engage in there. Then hop the subway right back into Manhattan afterwards.
