Ben Simmons Ineligible for Wooden Award
LSU coach: Ben Simmons 'didn't meet requirements' for Wooden Award

LSU freshman Ben Simmons has not been certified by his school in order to be eligible for the Wooden Award, with a source telling ESPN on Saturday that it's for academic-related reasons.

"From what I was told, he didn't meet all of the requirements," Tigers coach Johnny Jones told ESPN. "He wasn't certified by the school to be on the ballot."

LSU freshman Ben Simmons "didn't meet all the requirements" and is not eligible to win the Wooden Award, which is presented annually to college basketball's top player.

Why do people act like Ben Simmons was forced to go to college? Could have made a million bucks anywhere in the world. This was his choice.

The stage of D1 basketball appeals more to these guys. Most casual fans had never heard of Mudiay going into last year's draft.

He will go first overall anyways. His success has put him on the map for American fans far more than playing overseas would have.

For a guy like him who was going to play in the NBA anyways, he is better off playing a year for free and developing a brand that will see him receive endorsement offers the moment he declares for draft.

Pretty embarrassing that he can't keep his grades up enough to meet the requirements. It's not like the first couple of semesters of college is very tough. I find it alittle concerning that he gets a free ride to play hoops at this university and he cant even do the minimum to stay eligible. Just another guy putting all his eggs into one basket, he better get into the gym and work on getting any kind of a jump shot because it's pretty evident he is fine with being uneducated

Personally I would be cautious drafting a kid that can't keep his grades to par. He couldn't even lead his team to the NCAA tournament.
