Yep! The tax man politely asked us to bend over again as well this year. Never ending.

Don't know, have to do them today. Normally split it down the middle with the wife. I put mine in my savings.

You should splurge on a financial consultant.

If you get money back, you've been giving the government a tax-free loan on your dime. And you're admitting you have no idea how to invest, plus showing zero savings discipline.

If you get money back it means your income is not high and you don't have any real investments that do not gain interest so getting money back is not good

Pretty sure that in some states, you have to also claim the fed return as income the next year as well. At least, I think that used to be the case.

Still is. As much as I try every year - its impossible for me to break even without owing the gov't money in fines for not paying up quarterly. I travel for work and so every hour I charge in a diff state gets charged at that states tax rate. End of the year I get trued up for what I actually should have paid that state and get refunds from most of the states I travel too - never owed a state. But the next year I have to claim that refund as income so if I play it too tight it penetrates me and the gov't comes telling me I owe them a fine. Not worth it.

If you own a small business (my wife does) its also tough to get it exactly right.

I used to say the same thing - only schmucks get money back in taxes. Now I see its more difficult as income goes up and life gets more complicated

My tax rate was 7.3%. Depending on who gets in Nov, their flat tax plan of 10% would raise mine.

Some corporations pay zero. Does the candidate wanting a flat tax think those corporations that pay zero
will pay 10% or will they be exempt? I'm betting exempt.

That answer goes back to the whole bad investing theory as to why one ends up in that boat....full circle.
